Celebration of Life Elton Abraham Thornton Sunrise: September 29, 1960, Sunset: June 23, 2026 March Funeral Home Chapel, 11:00 am, July 2, 2026 Elton Abraham Thornton was born on September 29, 1960, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Arthur Thornton Jr. and Juanita Washington Thornton. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents. He was educated in Henrico County, Virginia, and graduated from Highland Springs High School, and was very active in athletics, and later in alumni events. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and later became a member of New Light Baptist Church. There, he faithfully served for several years in the Men's Ministry and supported Vacation Bible School and other church activities. In 1996, Elton was united in holy matrimony with the love of his life, Lynn Manners, in Hampton, Virginia. Together, they built a loving blended family with their two children, Elton Thornton and Shanta Thornton, along with their cherished K-9 companions, Maceo and Savannah. He retired from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals after more than 34 years of dedicated service, serving as a respected supervisor who earned the admiration of his colleagues and formed many lifelong friendships. A passionate motorcyclist, Elton (EZ) served for several years as President of Cobra One Motorcycle Club. He was deeply committed to serving his community and volunteered in numerous charitable events, including the Cancer Ride, Teddy Bear Ride, Sickle Cell Ride, and Thanksgiving Turkey Community Donation Drive. His goal was always to raise awareness, support those affected by illness, and encourage the courageous individuals and families facing these challenges. Those who knew Elton often described him as a charismatic leader, a faithful friend, and the "Big-Short Guy"—a nickname that reflected both his smaller stature and his enormous heart. He loved bringing family and friends together and proudly earned the title of the family's "Grill Master." He also found great joy in fishing and creating lasting memories by taking family and friends out on his boat. Elton leaves to cherish his precious memory his devoted wife, Lynn; his son, Elton; his daughter, Shanta; two brothers, Arthur (Andrea) and James (Tracey); two sisters, Belinda and Darlene (Earl); his sister-in-law, Delois; three brothers-in-law, Jerome, Leroy, and Anthony; three beloved grandchildren, Saraphina, Ellyana, and Erielle; two devoted cousins, Jackie & Kevin Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends, notably Dennis (Bubba), Keith and others, whose lives were forever enriched by his love and friendship. His legacy of faith, service, generosity, and love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
