Elsie Taylor Davis

Elsie T.Davis was born March 17, 1917 in Richmond Virginia, to William and Pearl Ross. She graduated from Armstrong High School in 1935 and attended Smith-Madden Business College. She worked for Friedman- Mark as a seamstress and the Defense Distribution Depot Richmond making parachutes. She later worked at Defense General Supply Center in production. Mrs. Davis was an active member of the AFGE local union and served as the Shop Steward. She retired from federal service in 1978. After retirement, she was a member and served as president of both the Bellwood Retirees and AARP, Inc. Chapter 5395 of Southside Richmond. In 2011, Mrs. Davis joined the Mountain of Blessing Christian Center. Over many years, she has also been a member of the First African Baptist Church, Lutheran Resurrection, and Richmond Christian Center. She has served as a church elder, a Deacon, a choir member and on various ministries including the Senio'rs Ministry and Helps Ministry. Mrs. Davis lived life to the fullness and enjoyed shopping, gardening, fishing, socializing with friends and especially traveling. She frequently organize cruises and bus trips for her senior's groups and often took her grandchildren on vacations. Most recently she was planning to take a week long trip to New Orleans at the end of this month. Mrs. Davis continues to be a blessing and inspiration to all she encountered. She always reminded us to stay focused on God and his Son Jesus Christ. Through them we will overcome whatever challenges come our way. Mrs. Elsie T. Davis, 95 went peacefully in her sleep to be with the Lord surrounded by family Monday, June 11, 2012. She was preceded in death by three of her children, Clarence Taylor Jr., Frederick Taylor, Sr. and Joyce Thornton. She is survived by one son, Gene Taylor(Rosetta); grandchildren, Walter Burton,Jr.(Iris), Rene Burton-Brown(William Jr.), Kevin Burton(Kim), Patricia Joyner(LeVon), Frederick Taylor,Jr.(Ronnie), Wendy Taylor, Jean Raychel Pittman( Marvin), Marthenia ,Keith and Tanya Goodson; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; one great- great- great grandchild; daughter-in-law, Angeline Taylor; devoted cousins, Nanny B. and William Smith; and other relatives and loving friends.
