Elnora C. Burt

Life’s Legacy Elnora C. Burt was born June 23, 1940, in Gibson North Carolina to the late Oscar W. Billings Sr. and Priscilla McCall. She attended Richmond schools George Mason Elementary, Armstrong High School, and Henrico Vocational Tech Center. Elnora C. Burt faithfully served Asbury United Methodist Church for many years under the current pastoralship of Rev. Lynda Moore. She loved her church and served in many capacities such as the gospel choir, a member of The United Women of Faith, and The Hospitality Committee. She served 25 years as a Sergeant in the US Army Reserve. Elnora’s life was a life well lived. She was very independent, and loved entertaining, reading and listening to books on tape, traveling, and engaging in fun activities with her Armstrong High School classmates and Army Reserve crew members. Always being optimistic and encouraging she taught many young ones about the importance of financial saving, keeping a neat home, of course, manners, and behaving properly. A good cook as we all knew she loved to eat good food also, making the best pineapple upside-down cakes as well as bread pudding. Having a good time is an understatement for she loved to party. Elnora wore her heart on her sleeve. Always being there for others volunteering at Richmond Community Hospital, feeding the homeless throughout the City of Richmond, being very charitable, an attentive listener, and maternal to all. Being kind to her neighbors she had values, beliefs and was very dignified. Her fashion sense and style were fabulous, never having a hair out of place, and the epitome of a lady with a smile that warmed your heart. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all. She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar W. Billings Sr. and Priscilla McCall, reared by Herbert and Elnora Commander, brothers, Oscar and Calvin Billings; sister, JoAnn B. Dukes; granddaughters, Cherish and Carmena; husbands, Raymond B. Carter, Sr. and Randolph Burt, Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory children, Pamela Smith (Vernon A. Smith Jr.), Raymone B. Carter Jr., Sheba Shepherd Reyes; stepson, Randolph Burt Jr., 11 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Larry, and Melvin Billings; sister, Barbara Johnson; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Even though she may no longer be with us, she lives on through us. In her final days, her spirit and heart remained joyful in the Lord. Blessed are the pure of heart; for they shall see God.
