Elmore Hayes Jr.

Legacy of Life Elmore Hayes, Jr. departed this life on Thursday, November 21, 2019 after a brief illness in Richmond, Virginia. He was born on June 13, 1945 to the late Elmore and Lugenia Hayes, Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife of 24 years, Darlene I. Hayes, his daughter Pamela R. Hayes and sister Dorothy A. Greene. Elmore accepted Christ at the age of 12 at Saint Disciples Church of Christ. He sang in the Junior Choir and was a Junior Usher. He was a faithful and active member of Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and sung with the Male Chorus for several years until he relocated to Southside Richmond and moved his membership to Christ Christian Church Ministry. There he sung with the male chorus and was a member of the Men's Ministry until his health failed him. Elmore worked at Cripple Children's Hospital (now Children's Hospital) as a custodian for many years. He left there and went to work for the Richmond Public School system as a custodian at William Fox Elementary School until he retired in June 1999 after 20 years. Elmore was a devout member of King David Lodge #28 for over 40 years. He was a die-hard Redskin fan. He was a long time member of Ovoutees Social Club. He enjoyed life to the fullest especially social events. He also enjoyed being with family and friends. Elmore was always willing to help anyone who was in need-day or night. He meant so much to so many people. He was hard-working, inspiring and dependable. Elmore will always live in our hearts. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, daughter, Chamique S. Hayes; granddaughter, Erica N. Reilly (Leslie); great-grandchildren, Aamir and Amari Reilly; devoted sister, Marjorie Haskell (Donald); two nieces, Donnetta L. Beatty (Kenneth) and Dana G. Robertson (Ray); nephew, Brian Hayes; four great-nieces, Ajah and Imani Haskell, Amaya and Olivia Beatty; two great-nephews, Cortez and Brian Hayes, Jr.; brother-in-law, Steward Greene; two sisters-in-law, Belinda Cooper and Anna Claiborne; two devoted friends, Jeff and Mallisena; a host of other relatives and friends. To have touched so many lives bears testament to the fact that his purpose was divine.
