“Your memory to us is a keepsake with which we will never part;Though God has you in his keeping, we still have you in our hearts.”God in His infinite wisdom came to claim His own, ELMER LEE FIELDS, the beloved husband of the late Emma J. Fields from labor to reward on Sunday, November 17, 2002 after a brief illness. Elmer Lee Fields, better known as “Ball,” the son of the late Raymond Barnes and Annie Mae Darden, was born on December 29, 1932 in Green County, North Carolina; where he accepted Christ at an early age at the Saints Delight Missionary Baptist Church in Walstonburg, North Carolina. He was also a member of the Elks in Farmville, North Carolina. After completing his education in Wilson County, North Carolina, “Ball” moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he began working as a longshoreman with the International Longshoreman Association, Local 1429 and retired after thirty-seven years. On February 3, 1957, he was united in marriage to the late Emma J. Fields, and from their union, they were blessed with one daughter, Sondra A. Hines. “Ball” had an unconditional love for his family and friends. His unique personality and unspoken manner gained him numerous friends wherever he went. He was known for his never-ending smile and joyful spirit. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. “Ball” leaves to cherish his memory a very close-knit family that includes: a very loving and devoted daughter, Sondra A. Hines; son, Jerome J. Fields of Woodbridge, Virginia; one son-in-law, Melvin G. Hines; one daughter-in-law, Patricia A. Fields; seven grandchildren, Marquis, Tinesha, Kalima, Melvin II, Kali, Kori and Kenya; seven great-grandchildren, KaShawn, Diamond, Dajuane, Lou Baker of Wilson, North Carolina; one brother-in-law, Randy Thompson; two aunts, Ada Johnson of Newport New, Virginia and Katie Hall; three uncles, J.T. Fields of Eastern, Pennsylvania, Johnnie Fields of Roselle, New Jersey and Joseph Ray Barnes; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and devoted friends.GRANDDADDYPerhaps your time seemed all too brief,We won’t lengthen it now with undue grief;Lift up your heart and share with me,Lovingly, Your Grandchildren & Great-Grandchildren
