Ella Mae Brooks

Ella Mae Brooks, daughter of the late Seneca and Laura Jane Dent, was born December 19, 1952 and entered eternal rest on September 10, 2016. Ella graduated from John Graham High School in 1971, and then set out for Baltimore, MD to join two of her siblings. This move would change life as Ella knew it because this is where she met her loving partner of 44 years, Wayne Brooks. After a brief courtship they both decided they found their soul mate and made their union official June 14, 1972. From this union they produced their one and only child Wayne Devon Brooks. Being the talented cook she was, Ella was no stranger to the kitchen. Her passion afforded her many years of service in food industry. Some of the stop along the way include Duff's Famous Smorgasbord, Kings Court Restaurant and Baltimore City School System from where she retired after her health began to change. Although there was no dish to challenge Ella, her sweet potato pies were her signature. Ella's world revolved around her son and his four kids. Although she loved them equally, she had a special bond with the second born Jaylin Emil. Ella left no stone unturned when it came to them. Ella found Christ at an early age as a member of Shocco Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Warrenton, NC. After moving to Baltimore, MD she had several church families until she found her home at Wayland Baptist Church. She found great joy in being a member of several organization such as The Simon Circle, The J. Edgar Henson Ministries and Gospel choirs to name a few. She also was an active participant in The Woodlawn Red Hatters. Ella only had on born child, but raised and touched the lives of so many which earned her the name ''Mama Ella''. Not only did Ella's parents Seneca and Laura Jane Dent precede her in death, so did five out of her six siblings: Lillie M. Jefferson, Mary B. Robinson, Mason Dent, Howard Dent, and Annie R. Dent. Ella leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband, Wayne Brooks; her favorite DJ and son, Wayne Devon Brooks; four grandchildren, Devon Jaleel Brooks of Honolulu, HI, Jaylin Emil Brooks of Atlanta, GA, Jordyn Ania Brooks and Jasmine Georgianna Brooks both of Baltimore, MD; two sisters-in-law, Katie Brooks; one sister, Jernita Bullock of Baltimore, MD; two sisters-in -law, Marietta Johnson of Richmond, VA. and Joyce Ann Brooks of Baltimore, MD. one brother/nephew, Robert Dent (Vera) of Baltimore; MD. two aunts, Mattie Alston and Rebecca Williams both of Warrenton, NC. two devoted friends, Pamela Dingle and Stephanie Bradford, both of Baltimore, MD; and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins, friends and extended family.
