Elizabeth Vinson Maddox

Elizabeth Ann Maddox is loved and will be truly missed. A place was prepared and the heavenly gates were opened to receive Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Maddox on April 18, 2015 in North Chesterfield, VA. Elizabeth Maddox, affectionately known as “Libby” or "Liz",was born in Philadelphia,PA to the late Walter Henry Vinson and Blanche Serna Brown Lemon. She grew up in Baltimore,MD and later relocated to Richmond,VA in the mid 1980's. Libby was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools where she participated in the majorettes, Future Business Leaders (FBLA) and the Dunbar Senior Choir. She graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School on June 7, 1963. Elizabeth attended Morgan State University where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She furthered her education by attending Virginia State University, earning a Master’s degree in Education Administration. At the age of sixteen, Liz met her true love and soul mate, Calvin. They would later marry in Ellicott City, MD; June 3, 1965. Their endless love for one another bonded them from Maryland to Panama and then to Virginia. From this union they shared two children, Khalifa (Darryl) and Shayla. Libby lived and displayed her love through her family and various community associations. Elizabeth had a unique love for community service. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a charter member of Jack and Jill of America, Midlothian Chapter. While living in Baltimore, MD., she attended Waters A.M.E. Church (Rev. Duckett) and in Richmond, VA joined First Baptist of South Richmond (Rev. Dr. Jones). Dedicating over 40 years by serving the community in the field of education,Liz worked with thousands of students in Baltimore City Public School and Richmond Public Schools,Elizabeth Maddox retired as an Assistant Principal at Adult Career and Development Center(ACDC). As an educator,she was highly involved with school activities and events such as,Delta Academy,Plato-Lab(reading),tutoring,and the Mr. and Miss Elkhart Middle School Pageant. Libby took pride in mentoring pregnant teens upon their graduation from high school. Elizabeth Maddox has been reunited with her loving husband, Calvin D. Maddox, Jr. She is survived by two loving children,Khalifa “Darryl” Al-Islam and Shayla Maddox Pierce, son-in-law, Jeffery Pierce; four grandchildren,Prestyn Pierce, Idris Maddox,JeNiyya Pierce, and Regina Watson, one sister, Joyce Holmes; one brother, Timothy Vinson; three sisters-in-law; Loretta “Lois” Maddox, Phyllis Vinson, and Elizabeth “Lizzy” Maddox; three brothers-in-law;Ben Holmes, Daniel Maddox, and Michael Maddox;Nadira Chase,nieces,nephews,cousins,and a host of other relatives and friends. Elizabeth was also preceded in death by her parents, Blanche Lemon, Eugene Lemon, and Walter Vinson, mother and father-in-law, Amanda King and Calvin Maddox, Sr.; sisters-in-law; Hazel Maddox and Carolyn Fox.
