Elizabeth Cheatham

On March 23, 2002, Elizabeth Taylor Cheatham departed this life at Mercy Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Elizabeth was born on December 7, 1924 to the late Mr. Roscoe Taylor and Eva Lewis Taylor of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She was educated in Rocky, Mount, NC public schools. She also received her certification in nursing from the Chicago School of Nursing from Chicago, Ill. Elizabeth accepted Christ at and early age. She joined the Union Branch Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, NC. where she was an active and dedicated member, until relocating to Baltimore, Maryland in 1942, where she met and married the late Mr. Horace Cheatham, Sr., July 11, 1945. From this union four children were born Horace, Linda and Elaine. Her oldest daughter, Courtney, preceded her in death. She relocated her membership to Cornerstone Baptist Church in 1961, where she held various Sunday positions including stewartess, vacation Bible school volunteer, and a member of the North Carolina Club. Her career spanned many years of work in the field of nursing at Provident Hospital, where she worked on staff. Elizabeth donated many additional free hours at the Long Green Nursing Home. She also worked at the American Butterfly Company for forty years and the Reuben H. Yoffee Wholesale Warehouse for thirty years. Mom always held down two jobs and she additionally started her own business in retailer produce, named Jack and Jill Produce for fifteen years having her own stall at the historic Hollins Market. She still found time to enjoy her hobbies: cooking, reading, sewing and visiting churches. Mom will be sorely missed by all that knew her.She leaves to mourn her parting: Horace Jr., Linda and Elaine; one son-in-law, Woodrow Peterson of Baltimore, Maryland; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Cheatham of Memphis, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Michael Wax of Charlotte, NC, Shawn Cheathan of Beijing, China, Maseo Pearson of Baltimore, MD, Erica Cheatham of Des Moines, Iowa, Charmell Peterson of Baltimore, MD, Matthew Peterson of Baltimore, MD; twelve great grandchildren, one sister, Eva Battle of Baltimore, MD, one brother, Percy Taylor of Richmond, VA, one sister-in-law, Clorine Johnson of Baltimore, Maryland and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
