Elfina Staten

He who calls you is faithful, and He will do it. 1Thessalonians 5:23-24 ELFINA STATEN, daughter of the late Floyd Staten and Edith M. Rice, was born on July 2, 1957 in Baltimore, Maryland. Elfina received her formal education within the Baltimore City Public and Parochial school systems, attending Saint Francis Academy and later graduating from Western High School in 1976. She then attended Bay College for two years. She was a natural caregiver. Elfina was employed with SSD for ten years caring for Special needs adults. She extended her education and received a State certification as a Geriatric Nursing Assistant. She experienced a rewarding career as an in-home healthcare nursing assistant for the State of Maryland; retiring in 2013. Elfina’s love for caregiving was nurtured from and shown especially to her younger siblings while growing up. Elfina enjoyed creating mask sculptures. She spent most of her spare time creating the sculptures, shopping, and caring for her many plants. She also had a genuine love for animals, especially dogs. At a young age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. Elfina rededicated her life to Christ at Simmons Memorial Baptist Church and was a member for ten years. Elfina was later baptized on April 26, 2012, in Baltimore, Maryland. She loved people and made numerous friends wherever she went. She will be sincerely missed by those who knew her. Elfina transitioned home to be with our Lord and Savior on August 4, 2022. She was preceded in death by: parents, Floyd Staten, and Edith & James Brockington; sister, Denise K. Brockington; grandson, Taj Stinyard; and godson, Antonio D. Hill. She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Shataia Lawan Stinyard and Tamika Denise Stinyard; grandchildren Thandi Stinyard, Ronnie Tyrone Moore, Justice D. Stinyard; siblings, James A. Brockington (Paula), Carl A. Brockington (Paula), Maria E. Veney (Dariel), Linda B. McCray (John, II), Tyrone Brockington, Kenneth “Ricky” Brockington; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, friends; two goddaughters, Dynasty Baxter and Rhonda Johnson; two grand pups Roscoe & Princess Lakiesha. Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whomever believes in me, though he dies, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. John 11:25-26a
