Elbert Calvin Wynn,Sr.

Believest thou this? John 11:25-26 Elbert Calvin Wynn, Sr., affectionately called “Brother”, was born November 6, 1935 to the late Eunice Walker and Jesse Calvin Wynn in Brodnax, Virginia. On December 17, 2012, the Lord whispered to Elbert, come home my beloved and he answered the call. He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Ellen Constance, “Sister” for 11 years; and a grandson, Elrick Wynn. He was educated in the Brunswick County Public School System. He furthered his education at James Soloman Russell Vocational School as a bricklayer in Lawrenceville, Virginia. At an early age, he accepted Christ and joined Meherrin Baptist Church, Brodnax in Virginia. Elbert later transferred his membership to Madison Temple AME Zion Church in Richmond, Virginia. He served on the Trustee Board and the Senior Choir. His spiritual nature allowed his faithfulness to his church. Elbert married his one and only love, Irish Arnetta Mise “Cat” in holy matrimony on December 21, 1955 in Boydton, Virginia. Their union was blessed with three children. For 45 years throughout the Richmond area, Elbert was a master bricklayer creating beauty by building foundations, houses, sidewalks and fireplaces. He specialized in stone pavement. He was a dedicated provider, husband, father, brother and friend. Elbert adored his family and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. He loved being outdoors spending time hunting, cutting grass, working in his garden and visiting the family “Cow Farm.” He loved watching sports especially his favorite football team, “The Washington Redskins.” Elbert’s spirit was one in a million. We will love and miss him forever. He was an awesome man; giving his heart, soul, love and time to many. The lives that he impacted will have memories that all of us will cherish. He made you feel that by trusting in God, everything will work out. He never gave up. We will always remember our last moments with him. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Irish A. Wynn; son, Elbert C. Wynn Jr.; two daughters, Della and Crystal Wynn; three grandchildren, Jessica, Delisha and Tyniah; three sisters, Annie Mae Johnson, Gloria Thomas (George) “his two devoted caretakers” and Shirley Harrison; two brothers, James Wynn (Joyce) and Curtis Wynn (Martha); one aunt, Hester Austin; five sisters-in-law, Gladys Mushaw, Marion Mabry, Carol Mise, Delores Mise-Walker (Frederick) and Merrell Mise; two brothers-in-law, Ernest Mise (Virgie) and Harvey Mise; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and caring friends. Tribute to Brother Brother . . . A foot soldier for God, has gone away To be with his Savior, and it is okay. Brother was a devoted and true servant of God, His struggles on Earth were often very hand. He fought the battle and ran the race. Now he is home, in his rightful place sitting at the Father’s throne, because his work here was very well done. Brother we will miss you, our love will never cease.
