Elaine Harris

OTELIA ELAINE NORTON, born February 13, 1937 in Abingdon, Maryland to the late Harold Albert Norton and Alice Janette Brown of Baltimore, Maryland. Elaine attended the Abingdon School through fifth grade. Upon completion of the fifth grade she attended the Bel Air Colored High School. In 1950 she entered Central Consolidated School and graduated in 1954. After graduation from Central, she attended Morgan States College. Laine as she was often called, in 1957 entered in Holy Matrimony with Paul Edward Harris. She birthed three children. Keith (Nickey), Alice (Cuddie) and Brian Harris. Elaine was devoted mother and wife, yet found time to enjoy many hobbies and past times. She was an avid collector of antiques and had a love for cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking and ancestral history. Also, a love of traveling, which took her to many places, homeland and abroad. She enjoyed her life as a mother, wife, sister and friend to many. Her work experiences included employment by the Worthington Family of Bel Air, Maryland, Maryland State Highway Administration, Baltimore City Public School system, and manager of the Priesthood at the Catholic Archdiocese, in 1977 she attended Carver Vocational School in Baltimore, Maryland, where she pursued and completed a career as a seamstress; and was employed as a part-time seamstress at The Scott Tailoring Shop. On November 15th at 8:50 a.m. at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland Elaine’s spirit was set free, her work on earth was done. She was pre-deceased in death by her parents; Harold and Alice, sister; Edna McMillian, brother, baby Clinton Marshall, and sister; Hazel Marie Peaker. In her absence, she leaves to mourn: Keith Edward Harris (John) of Windsor Mills. Maryland; Alice Jeanette Bates (Stevie) of Parkville, Maryland and Brain Levon Harris of Baltimore, Maryland, 3 grandchildren; Steven Bates Jr., Terrance Bates, and Jeremiah Harris, 3 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Harold Norton Jr., (Madeline) of Kanapolis, North Carolina, 1 sister; Edith Nutter of Lusby, Maryland, 1 aunt; Mildred E. Norton of Baltimore and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She will be missed here, but surely welcomed THERE.
