Edna Roberta Lane

Edna Roberta Stokes-Lane, departed this life peacefully at her home on Saturday, August 25, 2007, surrounded by her loving family following a lengthy illness.Edna was born on September 7, 1935. She was one of eight children, daughter of the late William and Annie Marshall of Baltimore, MD. Edna was a loving and caring person. She enjoyed giving and sharing with everyone she came in contact with, and she would always keep you laughing even through her illness.Edna loved life; she accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and attended Evangelical Baptist Church faithfully under the leadership of Rev. Purcell Edwards. She also attended noonday prayer meetings regularly. She regenerated the nursing unit at Evangelical Baptist Church, and through this fellowship she became a member of the United Nurses At Various Churches, Inc., where she was appointed the assistant treasurer. Edna ‘s favorite hymns were “I wont’ Complain” and “He Would Not Come Down”.Edna was educated in Howard County Public Schools and graduated from Cooksville High School in 1954.In 1955, Edna met and married Moses Stokes, and from this union they were blessed with six children.In 1965 she started employment with Johns Hopkins Hospital and received the Baker’s King Award for outstanding services. Edna retired from Johns Hopkins Hospital after 35 years of faithful service.During her life, Mrs. Lane volunteered for two years at Union Memorial Hospital and six years for Edgecomb Circle Nursing Home. She has a passion for helping the sick and elderly.On May 4, 1984, Edna married her second husband, Walter Lane. She was faithfully married for 23 years.In addition to her husband Walter Lane, Edna is survived by: five daughters, Sherry, Delores, Kathi, Linda and Elaine; two stepdaughters, Dionne and Melanie; one son, Barry; four sons-in-law, Pastor Theodore, Zarshad, Willie and John; one daughter-in-law, Ivette and one grandson-in-law, Woodson; fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three stepgrand-children, two sisters, Catherine and Betty, one brother, Robert, four sisters-n-law, Marie, Edith, Rosa and Maggie; mother-in-law, Pauline, two brothers-in-law, Welton and Charles and a host of other relatives and friends.
