Edna Laura McAdory

A Time To Be Born... Edna Laura McAdory, daughter of the late Sally Johnson Hope, Wilbert Johnson and Lee Hope (stepfather), was born on December 21, 1922 in Baltimore, Maryland. And A Time To Die... Edna departed this life on Monday, June 20, 2005. A Time To Build... She was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and married Melvin Franklin McAdory in 1941. They later divorced. Edna was the loving mother of six children. She held a variety of positions in which she demonstrated strong work ethics and a sense of pride in her work but she would not be taken advantage of. During the Civil Rights Era, she worked as a restaurant waitress. When they continued to refuse service to people of color she quit even though she had mouths to feed. She sat in one company's personnel office on many days watching White applicants get jobs. When they still refused to hire her after several attempts, she told the hiring office that she "would come back every day, even in inclement weather, until they hired her." She was bold, strong willed and tenacious and she got the job! Edna retired from the Baltimore City Public School System after many years of dedicated service as a teacher's aide. A Time To Share... One of her greatest pleasures was preparing foods for family gatherings, especially her homemade rolls and biscuits, peach-apple cobbler, bread pudding, fried fish and many more scrumptious dishes. Edna's love of family was most important in her life. She had a special bond with each of her children. She worked hard to provide a nurturing home for her children. Her generosity extended well beyond her own family. Even after her health failed, she kept her family together. Edna will be remembered for her quick wit; love of life, music and dancing and for her beauty, both inside and out. A Time To Love... Edna leaves to cherish her memory: her sisters, Annabell and Doris; her children, M. Lee (Marie), Montaque (Barbara), Marlene (Bill), Marvin (Vikki), Pat and Pamela; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends. Her extended family is enormous; including the siblings of her ex-husband, Loretta, Dolly, Earl and Howard.
