Eddie Lowell Johnson Sr.

Dear Family, On Saturday, November 19, 2022, our hearts were saddened, and the bright light went dark as Eddie Sr. departed this earth. EDDIE LOWELL JOHNSON SR.’s earthly journey began on March 15, our Lord’s year 1944 in Dover, North Carolina, where he was born to the late Eddie F. and Almira Becton-Johnson. Eddie was the oldest of six boys. He received his educational training at the New Bold High School in Dover, North Carolina. Eddie joined the United States Army in March 1965 where he was stationed in Korea. He achieved the rank of E4 before he was honorably discharged in March 1967. Eddie Sr. was employed at Misty Harbor/London Fog. He also worked at Wm. T. Burnett for many years and later retired in August 2016. Eddie Sr. served in the United Furniture Workers of America where he held various positions throughout the years. His last position was Vice President of Local 75. Eddie Sr. was a faithful and loyal member until his retirement. On June 10, 1967, Eddie married his sweetheart Gloria Hawkins- Johnson, who he affectionately called (Glowry) who preceded him in death and from that union they welcomed Myra and Eddie Jr. Eddie Sr. lived by faith, fairness, and loyalty. He worked hard to support those he cared about. Spending time with his family and friends was his top priority. Eddie loved sports as he played fast pitch baseball for Burnett. He loved to watch sports, westerns, and Family Feud on Mondays with his son-in-law Sam. He loved to cook especially Sunday dinners. Some of his specialties were fried chicken, mac & cheese, collard greens and to many others to name. Some of his favorite hobbies included traveling, gardening, and shopping at Home Depot. And he also loved children which brought joy to his life. His wife Gloria and his son Eddie Jr. preceded him in death. Eddie leaves to cherish the memory of his life: his loving and devoted daughter, Myra Scriber (Samuel) of Pikesville, Maryland; brothers, Charles Sr. (Minnie), Gregory (Gale), Malcolm (Judy), Randy (Diane) and Herman Greene; two granddaughters, Brittney, and Shanell Johnson; three godchildren, Valerie Murray, Jasmine Goodman and Corey Barnes; a close family friend, Joy Bost; two dearest and devoted friends, May Dix and Carolyn Hendricks; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who mourn his loss.
