Eddie "Junie" Bennett, Jr.

On Monday afternoon,June 7,2010,God in His infinite wisdom and mercy,called Deacon Eddie Bennett,Jr. from labor to eternal rest. He was born December 1,1942 to the late Eddie and Hattie Bennett,Sr. in Richmond,Virginia. "Junie" as he was affectionally known,was educated in the Richmond Public School system. At the age of sixteen,he selflessly stepped up to fill the role of family provider when his father fell ill. That giving spirit followed him for the duration of his journey here on earth. In August 1966,he was united in holy matrimony to the late Bertha O. MCLaurin. This union was blessed with five children. A son,Vernon preceded him in death. He accepted the Lord at an early age. He was ordained as an Elder at the 17th Street Missionary. Later in life Eddie joined St. John Baptist Church ans was ordained as a Deacon on August 8,1997. He loved his church and as long as his health permitted him.he served on the following ministries;Transportation,Food Bank,Sexton and volunteered with the Vacation Bible School. Deacon Bennett had a bible verse for every situation,but his favorite verse was Proverbs #:5"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart. And lean not unto thine own understanding" He retired from Philip Morris in Richmond,Virginia. He was a Past Master of Majestic Lodge #263 Free and Accepted Mason,Inc. Prince Hall Affiliated. "Junie" was known for his smile,his since of humor,the love for his family and the smooth walk he had in his Stacy Adams shoes and Kangol cap. Ten grandchildren,Shawnte,Cynthia,Eric,Brionna,Kiara,Abby-Lauren,Josiah,Kameron,one great grandchild,Jayden, five sisters,Constance Parker,Delores Bennett,Shirley English,Deacon Gloria Moore(George),Patricia Gresham(Kermit,Jr.)and one brother,George Bennett,all of Richmond,VA.,one brother-in-law,Lonnie McLaurin of Richmond,VA. Devoted friends,Deacon Wilber Mealey,Kermit Gresham,Jr. and Eulalia Williams,and a host of nieces,nephews and other relatives and friends.
