Dorothy Toney

Dorothy Toney age 86, from Winston-Salem North Carolina Carolina entered into her eternal rest on Thursday, December 1st 2016. She was born to Sallie Davis and James Williams on October 28th 1930. Her mother Sallie moved to New York to find a better life in the north, leaving Dorothy with a close family friend Mary McHough true believer in the lord, who became a second mother to Dorothy. Mary took very good care of Dorothy until her biological mother Sallie returned south to bring her back to New York to join the rest of the family. When Dorothy arrived in New York she attended elementary school P.S 147 and graduated from Seward Park High School. She began to start a family over time and eventually had nine children, 3 girls and 6 boys. Dorothy began working on her career by completing certified business training programs and worked a few jobs until she landed into that "big opportunity" at NBC Network as a Payroll Supervisor. Dorothy worked diligently for NBC for 13 years and had an excellent record of employment. She was a very good worker and always demonstrated a high level of dedication toward her job and continually gave her best effort. Dorothy had a good attitude and always strive for success. She retired from NBC at age 62 and she and her husband relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. As a Christian woman she attended Mariners' Temple Baptist Church where she spent many years giving dedicated services. She held the stations of Chairperson Building Fund Member, Joint Board Trustee, Section Leader of Mass Choir Program Committee --Cotillion, User board, Pulpit Committee Secretary Installation Committee. Dorothy was asked as an honoree "What Does It Mean to be a Hard Working Christian Woman" her response was: A hard working Christian woman to me means dedication and a solid commitment to Christ. Walking by faith knowing that in God I will not fail. I feel there is satisfaction in doing my best to contribute to humanity. Whatever the task ahead today -- tomorrow with God in me, His arms around me, I am a woman with bold determination, striving, guided by the spirit to assist where God directs my path. Dorothy was a hard-praying and spiritually committed to our lord. And always encouraged her children her to "Get yourself into church" somebody's church! Dorothy was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-children. She loved her family and they were one of her greatest accomplishments in this world, as she lit up with love when she looked at or heard from each one of them. Preceded in death by her husband Hiawatha Toney, eldest son Blaine Samuels and youngest daughter Renee Catherine Phillips. Survived by two daughters, Delores Samuels-Matthews, Joan Samuels; Sons: Theodore Samuels, David Austin Samuels, James Lee Samuels, Nathan Paul Toney, Michael Joseph Toney Host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members and friends.
