Dorothy E. Nixon

DOROTHY E. NIXON was born to the late Rosie Holmes and Samuel L. Johnson. The second oldest child passed quietly from life due to a brief illness. Dorothy passed on Wednesday, at home, February 12, 2014. Dorothy was affectionately known by her siblings as "Fluffy", and to her closest friends and co-workers as "Dot". She attended Baltimore public school (Douglass High School). She devoted her life to her soul mate, Louis Nixon, and out of that union three children were born: her first born, Gregory, second born, Loretta and third born, Donna. Dorothy started working at a very young age as a house-keeper, working for Senator Butler. In addition, after leaving that employment, she was hired at Brager-Gutman department store as an elevator operator. She then went on to be promoted to a floor salesperson in the women's department. Before her retirement, she was promoted to buyer of women's clothes for that department. Though short in stature, Dorothy was a great person who had a lot of love and passion for her family and others. She loved to laugh and take her grandchildren and neighborhood children to Eastpoint Mall. Dorothy loved to travel with her family. Once she took a vacation with some friends to New Orleans. Dorothy also loved to drive, especially on summer vacations, traveling several times to Orlando, Florida. She would especially love driving fast and driving close to those big truckers, she would ride close beside them, just so they could look down on her and wave and give her a big smile. Of course we were scared riding in the back seat, yelling for her not to get so close to those big trucks. Those were good times for the entire family! Mommy loved the Lord and always spoke of having a relationship with Jesus. She always felt that it was very important to have Jesus in your life and in your heart. She attended the Ray of Hope Baptist Church for several years. She also felt it was very important for her children to have that same relationship with Jesus. So she made sure we attended the Cherry Hill Community Baptist Church. When her job required her to work on Sundays, she would have us study at home with bible studies with someone from the church. Our mother leaves to cherish her loving memory: her husband, Louis Nixon; her three children, Gregory I. Nixon, Loretta A. Nixon and Donna R. Funderburk; four grandchildren, Jonaz Nixon, Teon Funderburk (preceded in death), Nikia Funderburk and Bobby Pitts Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Brittany Nixon, London Campbell; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and in loving memories, her dear sisters and brothers who preceded her to glory: Aunt Betty, Aunt Estell, James (affectionately known as Junior), Aunt Evelyn, Aunt Rosetta, and younger brother, Maurice.
