DOROTHY MILLER McDOUGALD, quietly in the early morning hours on Saturday, December 16, 2017 began her journey to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness. Dorothy was born on August 8, 1936 in Manning, South Carolina to the (late)James Miller and (late) Virginia Mouzon Miller. Dorothy, affectionately known as "DOT", "Mama" and "Grandma" reeived her formal education at the Manning Training School in Manning, South Carolina. Dorothy accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age while attending the Goodwill Baptist Church in Manning, SC. Upon moving to Baltimore, she continued to display her devout belief for the Lord during her christian walk at the Zion Baptist Church until her death no longer allowed her to serve actively. While in Baltimore, Dorothy met and married the love of her life, Billy Melvin McDougald. They were united in holy matrimony on April 21, 1962. Together they were the proud and loving parents of three sons, Wayne Mack, Melvin McDougald and Bruce McDougald. Billy and son Bruce preceded her in death. Dorothy was employed at the Saint Paul School for Boys where she retired after many years of service. Dorothy was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother and friend. She had a sincere love for her family, but her heart centered on her grandchildren, Little Bruce and Shaylyn. They were indeed the center of her joy. She also enjoyed the company of her sisters. All of them were good cooks, however Dorothy was the master at preparing Sweet Potato Pies. She and her sisters would prepare "down home southern soul food" and visit with one another and eat, sit, relax and talk for hours and hours! This is how they enjoyed each other's company. Dorothy was always active, she was never a person to sit and do nothing. In the time Dorothy called her own, another favorite was sewing. Also, she had a green thumb; she could grow anything, which resulted in healthy beautiful plants. She leaves to cherish her memory: her sons, Wayne and Melvin; grandchildren, Bruce and Shaylyn; four grand-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Edith Dupree (Georgia) and Daisy Evans (Nathaniel) (Baltimore); sisters, Martha, Carrie Bell, Pearl, and Bernice preceded her in death; sister-in-law, Cora Deal (Alfred) (Texas); brother-in-law, Willie McDougald (Baltimore); and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. A golden heart stopped beating and hardworking hands were put to rest. God proved to us that He only takes the best. To God Be the Glory for the life and legacy of our beloved "Dorothy Miller McDougald."
