Dorothy Ellen Johnson

In the early morning hours of April 28, 2023, DOROTHY, daughter of Bernard and Louise Porter, went home to be with the Lord. Dorothy was born on April 29, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland. She was affectionately known as Dottie. Dorothy completed her high school education at Carver Vocational Technical School and continued her education with Coppin State University receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. Dorothy married her high school sweetheart, Jack Johnson and they united in holy matrimony on March 20, 1964. From this union were born four loving children. Jack Johnson Jr., Monica Breckenridge, David Johnson, and the late Shanae Johnson. During Dorothy’s early years of employment, she worked at School 112 in Baltimore, Maryland as a substitute teacher. Thereafter Dorothy went on to receive her bachelor’s degree and began her career as teacher for the Baltimore City Public School System, where she specialized in educating kindergarten through third grade for over 30 years. Dorothy was able to enjoy her fruits of labor retiring as a teacher in 2018. In her early years she was very outgoing; she enjoyed hosting card games, taking trips, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Dorothy’s happiest moments was the time she spent with her late husband Jack, children, grand kids, and siblings. Dorothy was a proud parent; and a mother to everyone. She was able to witness and brag on her children’s accomplishments. Dorothy loved cooking for her family, she hosted all Sunday meals, Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays every year. Dorothy loved these times the most when the house was filled with music, and laughter, she also loved running into her students in their later years, saying Mrs. Johnson you remember me? She would say yes, I remember you with a big smile. Dorothy loved her students; she was an accomplished educator and mentor to her students. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, daughter (Shanae) and loving husband, Jack. She leaves behind with cherished memories: two sons, JR (Jack), David Johnson (Charlene Johnson); daughter, Monica Breckenridge (late Joseph Breckenridge); 13 grandkids, Jack, Roque, Jayaune, late Sade, Shi, David Jr. Derrick, late Javon, Jewel, Starr, Jb (Joseph), Purity and Daven; great-grandkids, Shi’Nae, Bryce and a host of other great-grandkids; great-great grandson, Peace; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dorothy’s life was too short but those who knew her were touched by her and understood the quality of time far exceeds quantity of time spent. On the 28th an angel followed the command of God and quickly ushered Dottie into the presence of the Lord. By her departing she left a void in our lives, but her spirit and memory will always be treasured in the memory of our hearts.
