Dorothy G. McWilliams

Dorothy Goins McWilliams was born September 17, 1924 in Enfield, North Carolina to Ambrose Goins and Minnie Wade Goins. On August 22, 2004 God called her from labor to eternal rest.She was the seventh child of ten, raised by God-fearing parents and baptized at an early age at the Daniels Church also in Enfield, North Carolina.Dorothy received her education in the North Carolina school system. After Theophilas (Tip) was discharged in the United States Army, they married on March 7, 1946 in North Carolina, and months later they moved to Baltimore, Maryland.After Everett was in school, she went to work for the State of Maryland, University Hospital in 1954 and her retirement date was July 1, 1984.She helped with the daily care of Lillian’s children, which enabled Lillian and Ernest to become active in the Zion Baptist Church ministries. Most people did not know Dorothy cooked many dishes for homegoing services from Zion Baptist Church and others when she knew and could get the dishes to others. Dorothy’s parents had ten children, six girls-three of them were outstanding housekeepers and the other three were outstanding cooks. Dorothy was one of the cooks. This was her love-to cook and watch people enjoy what they were eating.One of Tip’s customers from the barber shop days said it was, “The only barber shop where you could get a haircut, meal and a drink.Dorothy’s sisters and brothers who preceded her in death were Catherine, Eulila, Arlean, Raymond, Cleveland, Novella and Dorsey.Her life, love, goodness and meals will truly be remembered by: her husband of fifty-eight years, Theophilas McWilliams; her daughter, Lillian A. Demby; son, Everett McWilliams; son-in-law, Ernest E. Demby, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Brenda McWilliams; three grandchildren, Qiana Greene, Ernest E. Demby, Jr., and Crystal Demby; great-granddaughter, Shatara; godson, William Bailey; sister, Calvester Silver of Temple Hills, Md.; brother, Ollie Goins and sister-in-law, Georgia of Philadelphia, Pa.; sisters-in-law, Viola Williams and Ernestine Bowser of Halifax County, N.C. and Louise Goins of Baltimore, Md.; brother-in-law, Willie Mc Williams of Richmond, Va.; her nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted nieces and nephews who are very special in her heart; the 5200 Bowleys Lane Co-Op, co-workers, former neighbors from Lanvale Street and surroundings area; The Zion Church family; and her friend, “The Navigator” Jennie Burgess.
