Dorothy M. Cobb

On October 9, 2015, the Lord God Almighty decided to reward Dorothy Mae Cobb with rest, peace and heavenly glory for her more than 84 years of laudable and praiseworthy life that He used as a righteous example for others to follow. Dorothy was born the eldest child of Jacob and Isabelle Brevard on March 2, 1931 in High Point, NC. She had five siblings: Jeanette, Candy, Ophelia, David and Alfred. In 1940 after the death of their mother and siblings, Ophelia and David, Dorothy and Jeanette moved to Richmond, VA to live with their maternal grandmother Annie McKoy. Dorothy lived with her grandmother for six years until her death in 1946. Afterwards, she and Jeanette moved to Baltimore, MD to live with their father. Through Jeanette, Dorothy met her husband of 42 years, James Cobb, Sr. Dorothy and James were married on December 23, 1950 at St. Pius Catholic Church in Baltimore, MD and would remain married until James’s death on October 8, 1992. This union produced six children: Donna Jackson (Dwight (div)), James Jr. (Rita (dec)), Bernadette Dukes (Tyrone), Craig (Brenda), Kevin (Katrece (div)) and Keith (Norvine); 14 grandchildren: Plevon Jr., Dwayne, Carla (Taylor), Janeen (Dion), Teresa, Craig Jr., Tyrone (dec), Keith Jr., Kevin Jr., Kharizma, Kiana, Cyniya, Tyisha and Tywanda; 10 great-grandchildren: Plevon III, Taylor, Jordan, Stanley, Dwayne Jr., Valentino, Chandler, Carlito and Carter; and a host of other nephews, nieces, family and friends. Dorothy attended Frederick Douglas HS and received her GED in 1985. She worked several years at Misty Harbor clothing factory until it closed and retired in 1993 as an employee of The National Security Agency. She received accolades from both the City of Baltimore and the US federal government for dutiful service. Through all of her accomplishments, Dorothy will be remembered for her love of God, her selfless dedication to motherhood and her overflowing reservoirs of wisdom and understanding. She loved to cook and feed people and was known for her special desserts (what was your favorite?). If the measure of a successful life is assessed by love, longevity and legacy, then we can proudly proclaim that Dorothy Mae Cobb lived a beautiful, strong and bountiful life.
