Dorothy L Briggs

DOROTHY LEE BRIGGS was born August 23, 1935, in Littleton, North Carolina. She was called home to glory on Wednesday, March, 23, 2023. She was born in Littleton, North Carolina to the late Archie Young and Rosa Lee Adams. She had 3 siblings Elizabeth and Nelson, who preceded her in death. Surviving her is a brother Elroy in Littleton, North Carolina. Dorothy was introduced to Christ at an early age at South Street Baptist Church where she gave her life to Christ and was baptized. She was taught the principles of working hard, and as a young girl she would work at her grandparent’s restaurant and funeral home. She received her education at McIver High School in Littleton, North Carolina. She also played women’s basketball and in “1953” they won the statewide basketball championship for women. Dorothy married Leroy Briggs who preceded her in death, and they had two daughters Doris and Janice. She and her husband became devoted members of Memorial Baptist Church as well as their two daughters Doris and Janice. In her latter years at Memorial Baptist Church she was a volunteer worker with the Evangelism Ministry. She volunteer at the Community Picnic, Jesus Tailgate Party, and Christopher Place. Dorothy had a quiet and gentle spirit but she was always willing to help anybody. Her love for God and His people was real and genuine. There was nothing like Sunday Morning Worship for Dorothy and she didn’t mind lifting up her hands and always willing to give God the praise. Dorothy was always very supportive when her daughter Rev. Harris would go out and minister the gospel as different churches. Dorothy Briggs was a wonderful and devoted mom, grandma, and great- grandmom. She was given a nickname called Grandma. Everybody called her Grandma and she was everybody’s Grandma. At home she loved watching the Baltimore Orioles, the women’s college basketball games and her favorite YouTube playlist of course named Grandma Playlist. When Grandma was able she cooked every Saturday so that after Sunday Worship Service everybody would meet at Grandma’s for Sunday dinner because this was her way of keeping the family together. She was a lady of fashion. She loved to dress with her Sunday morning suits as well as those special outfits ready to go out on the town. She loved to travel and you could often GPS Dorothy in North Carolina, Virginia Beach, Hampton, Virginia, Newport News, Virginia, Myrtle Beach, Rehoboth Beach and Pennsylvania. Her favorite songs were He Knows My Name, Sunday Morning Melody and He’s Sweet I Know, For I Found A Savior and He’s Sweet I Know. She leaves to cherish her memory: her two daughters, Rev. Doris Harris and Deaconess Janice Vaughters; two sons-in-law, Min. Terry Harris and Deacon John Vaughters; sister-in-law, Lucille Graham of Mullins, South Carolina; a grandson, Cornell Blount of Baltimore, Maryland; two granddaughters, Quanetta Blount of Baltimore, Tinia Blount of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; five great-grands, Brandon, Charity, Kaleah, Haven and Lavender; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members and devoted friends.
