Doris Rebecca Wynn

Doris Rebecca (Hobbs) Wynn was the sixth child born on October 12, 1925 to the union of Howard and Cora (Johnson) Hobbs in Wellville, Virginia. She was the last living sibling in her family. She peacefully slipped away on August 12, 2007 at the home of her caregiver, Debbie Sydnor in Baltimore, Maryland.A Time To PlantShe attended public school in Nottoway County Schools. She was baptized at Spring Hill Baptist Church at an early age.A Time To LoveIn 1942, Doris married Earl Wynn and from this union three children were born, two sons, Vernard Leon Wynn (Yvonne), Earl Neville Wynn (Njambi) and one daughter, Joyce Val Jean Wynn Dawkins (Tommy).A Time To Build UpIn 1954, she courageously chose to migrate to Baltimore, Maryland seeking better employment opportunities, a better quality of life and to put down roots. Shortly after relocating she met the Chavis’ and they welcomed her into their family. She gained employment at Reads Drug Store. She joined Faith Baptist Church on Christian Experience and became a member of the Senior Choir #2. Doris had a heart for God and for prayer and was devoted to her Church. She had a deep and abiding relationship with God and loved to praise and worship Him. She enjoyed singing and even did so around her home. She was also a gifted communicator of the written and spoken word. She was articulate, direct and effective at telling you exactly where she stood on a matter. She was never at a loss for words. She loved writing letters of strength and encouragement to her family members and friends. She was a woman of style and grace, always impeccably dressed and she had a commanding presence when she “glided” into a room, head held high. In her later years, she loved to wear bows in her hair and was rarely seen without one. Her wisdom and advice was sought after and welcomed by many and she loved her family deeply. She worked for Reads for over twenty-five years, continuing there even after it was purchased by the Rite Aid Corporation. She retired in 1990, having served more than forty-five years in the work force. She decided to put her love and care for others to use and pursued a new endeavor. She went back to school to obtain her certification for In Home Nursing Aide Care. She completed this course with honors.She leaves to cherish her loving memory; her husband, Earl; three children,Vernard Wynn (Yvonne), Earl Wynn (Njambi) and her devoted daughter, Joyce Val Jean Wynn Dawkins (Tommy), a devoted nephew, Darrell Hawkes (Lisa and daughter Monique); one grandson, Vincent Dawkins; two granddaughters, Tyrese Travels and Ebony Kussaw;four sisters-in-law, Lena Hobbs, Ethel Hobbs,Ruth Eppes and Edith Wynn;one brother-in-law,Webster Hawkes,a special goddaughter, Pamela Smithwick;and nieces,nephews,cousins,friends and neighbors.
