Doris Helena Price

Doris Helena Price, the third of nine children, was born to the late Christie and Blanche Johnathan on July 13, 1927 in Henrico County. Doris accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age, and was baptized, joining the St. James Baptist Church, where she served as superintendent of Sunday School, pianist, and teacher. She also enjoyed singing in the gospel chorus, teaching Vacation Bible School, encouraging the youth, and participating in the Karakul Kraal Sheepfold. Doris was also a charter member of the Elizabeth S. Spurlock Chapter #236 Order of the Eastern Star PHA. Doris received her ea!'ly education in the Henrico County Public Schools and was a graduate of Vrrginia Randolph High School. During high school and there after, she accepted the responsibility of caring for her yormger siblings and her niece Joyce Kinard. As,she began to grow into the courting stage of her life, there was one young man that would begin to enjoy coming over to her family's home. And that was when God sent her the love of her life, C. Manning Price. After getting married and starting a new life with her husband, she began to do domestic work and caring for the Cosby siblings and family. Doris would also begin working for the Henrico County Public School system as a substitute teacher and a teacher's aide. She enjoyed traveling up north to visit with her family in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. She also loved traveling to Bridgewater College in the mountains of Virginia for the Christian Ahram each yerar. Inher later years, Doris loved singing and dancing around the house, doing her crossword puzzles, and watching Jeopardy on television in the evenings. The joy of her life was being with her three sons, growing her flowers, making blackberry dew and sweet potato pies for her grandchildren and seeing her great grandchildren running around the house. She enjoyed spending precious time with her family and many friends. Doris departed this life peacefully early Sunday morning February 14, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, C. Manning Price, three sisters Christina Jackson, Joan Johnathan, and Phyllis Snipes and three brothers: Carl, James and Donald Johnathan. To cherish her memory are three sons, Manning (Bernice), Marvin Sr., and Michael (Jill) Price; eight grandchildren, Shakia, Marvin, Marcus, Kimberly, Jonathan and Donavan Price, Antwone Noble; one devoted grandson, Nathan Price; three great grandchildren, Marvin III, Malik and Maxwell; one sister, Marian Martin; one brother, Christie Stuart Johnathan; one god sister,Reverend Barbara Miller; one aunt, Alma Baugh; five sisters-in-law, Gloria Johnathan, Bernice Johnathan, Hattie Mitchell, Dorothy Henley, Mary Vaughan; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
