Doris E Jones

On Sunday, May 3, 2009, the Lord called Doris Johnson Jones from labor to eternal rest and peace, after a lengthy illness.Doris was born on September 11, 1937 in Atelenna, Calvert County, Maryland to the late Henry Johnson. She was married to Moses Jones on August 28, 1965. She received her education in the Baltimore, Maryland Public School System. She was a faithful and dedicated member of The Central Baptist Church for over forty years under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Montague J. Brackett.Doris was a very active member and was dedicated to the following Ministries: Church School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, Missionaries, Mass Choir, Gospel Chorus, Pastor’s Aid, Vocal Choir, Red Circle and the Bowling League. She faithfully attended the National Baptist Missionary Convention, the National Baptist Conference of Christian Education, the Lott Carey Convention and the National Deacons Conference. These Conventions allowed Doris the opportunity to travel around the world.Doris was employed for 39 years by Dr. Paul Harper, where she raised his three children until they were adults. She often spent nights when the parents traveled. She was a kind hearted and friendly person, who made a multitude of friends no matter where she went. She especially enjoyed cooking and made this her career after graduating from high school. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends at any time, without compensation. Doris was passionate about teaching and spreading the Word of God. She constantly gave thanks to the Holy Spirit for leading and guiding her in the right direction. Her devoted husband, Moses, worked tirelessly to make sure that she had what she needed, at all times. She repaid him by being a faithful and loving wife. Doris was an endearing friend to all that she met. She will be deeply missed.She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Moses; brothers, Roland Johnson, Henry Johnson and Melvin Bernard Johnson; sisters, Dorothy Freeland, Rosie Cooper, Mary Anderson and Delores Preston; seven brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law; step-daughters, Valencia Jones and Felicia Jones (brothers Joseph Johnson and James Edward Johnson and sister Audrey Irene Jefferson preceded her in death); and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and close friends.
