A Time To Be Born:MRS. DORIS VIOLA HARRIS-BENTLEY, daughter of the late Forrest and Signora Garrett Harris, was born the fourth of ten children on August 28, 1928 in Dillwyn, Virginia.A Time To Grow:Doris confessed and accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age, when she joined the Chief Cornerstone Baptist Church, where she remained a member until her death. She received her education in the Buckingham County Training school in Buckingham County, Virginia. When George returned from the war in 1947, they were married in Baltimore on October 5, 1947. While living in Baltimore, Doris served as an Administrative Distribution Manager of Princess Shops, Inc., from which she retired after more than twenty-five years. She has always held open arms and an open heart, as well as a hot meal and her famous cakes, that we have grown to love and will surely miss. Her cakes were her trademark secret that she developed over the years of serving with a mother’s love for family, friends and her neighbors.Although she was called home after her long illness, it will be comforting to know that she will be met and embraced by her mother and father, Signora and Forrest; one sister, Louise; and five brother, Albert, Thomas, Howard, Clifton and James Harris.A Time To Love:Doris leaves loving memories to cherish with a devoted and loving husband of fifty-nine years, George H. Bentley and her children, James E. Bentley and Wanda V. Bentley. She leaves her never-ending love for her grandchildren – grandson, James E. Bentley II and granddaughter, Casey N. R. Bent, both of whom she loved and cherished. Also remaining to carry on her memory are: her sisters, Marie Childs, Mae James, Signora Patterson; sisters-in-law, Ellen Bentley, Daisy Reynolds, Florence White, Mary Jane Harris; brothers-in-law, Robert Bentley and Shirley Patterson; daughter-in-law, Patricia Condrey-Bentley; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, -nephews, friends and family.Doris also leaves behind a dedicated, loving cousin and best friend, Ruth Austin, who shared memories, support and love on a daily basis. The love and support that they have shared over the past seventy-eight years is one that has truly stood the test of time and created a life long binding friendship. Another very special bond was the one that was shared between Doris and Daisy. Daisy has loved, supported and been an active part of her life in sickness and health, a truly devoted friend and sister.A Time To Rejoice:Doris was called to an eternal rest after a lengthy illness on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 6:15 a.m.
