Doralane Mc Gowan Brooks

Doralane Elizabeth McGowan-Brooks was born March 1, 1952 to Mattie L. McGowan and the late Frank Brooks. Darlene, as she was affectionately known to family and friends, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 24, 2014. Darlene was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools. She worked as a bartender at Club 28, which was owned and operated by her life-long partner Carroll Carter (preceded in death)/ Darlene also worked for six years at the Eastern Standard Corporation as an assembler. Her love for people and her giving spirit eventually led her to pursue a job as a light duty technician at Stella Maris. Darlene was gainfully employed at Stella Maris for well over a decade prior to her death. She had a great relationship with her co-workers and enjoyed getting up and going to work every day. She took pride in getting to work on time and always volunteered to work extra hours. She particularly enjoyed working alongside her sister, brother, and son at Stella Maris. Darlene loved the Lord and accepted Him as her Lord and Savior and she frequently attended Bethel . A.M.E.Church.. Darlene could often he heard asking the Father for help, understanding, and guidance. Her faith in the Father, even when faced with adversity and pain, never wavered! She was selfless and would always put the needs of other before her own. She would often say to her family and friends that she was okay just to keep them from worrying about her. Darlene's favorite pastime was listening to music (Shirley Ceasar, Barry White and BeBe and CeCe Winans were her favorites), singing, and visiting her close friends. Darlene was an angel on earth she had kind words for everyone and would move mountains to protect her family; especially; her sons and grandchildren. Darlene and her life-long partner Carrol Carter were very proud of their sons Dante and Edwin “Swoll”. Darlene leaves a legacy of love with her mother Mattie L McGowan; sister Shirley Bennett (Nathaniel W. Bennett) and Denise E. Leighton-McGowan(preceded in death); brother Anthony L. McGowan(Diane L McGowan); sons Dante Carter,Jr., Ariah Carter, Darreon Carter, Zyair Carter, and Khloe Doralane Carter (due to arrive on March 17, 2015); aunt Catherine Holmes (Carroll Holmes) and Lillian Wilson; uncle Haywood McGowan; nieces Michelle, Cheryl, Nicole, and Kaila; nephews Joe, Reggie, Keyon, Marcus, and Nicholas; and a host of other relatives and close friends.
