Dora Ellen Davis

Dora Ellen Davis was born on November 27, 1934, in the Township of Pamplico, County of Florence, South Carolina to the late John and the Reverend Earlene (McWhite) Green. With her radiant smile, she lived a full life of faith and was dedicated to her family, church and community. On January 15, 2025, at the Gilchrist Hospice Center of Baltimore she went to be with the Lord. Dora was educated in the school system of Pamplico and completed her high school studies at Booker T. Washington High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. At an early age Dora accepted Christ and was baptized. She was a faithful member of the House of God Church Keith Dominion. She served as secretary of Sunday school, sang on the choir and many other roles as needed. On August 30, 1952, Dora was united in holy matrimony to James Henry Davis and from this union 6 children were born. In 1954, Dora and James moved to Baltimore, Maryland for better opportunities. Dora and James joined the Southern Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Reverend James R. Grant, where she was a faithful member for over 70 years. Dora served as the secretary of the Senior Missionary Board and occasionally sang in the Woman’s Day choir. Dora had her own impeccable style and loved wearing hats and suits to church. For church anniversaries and special occasions, she loved matching her wardrobe to the color scheme for that event. Dora was a steadfast pillar of the community dedicating her life to uplifting those around her with unwavering compassion and selflessness. Whether it was offering a comforting word, preparing a meal, or helping those in need, Dora lived a Mathew 25:35-40 life, helping everyone she could. Her legacy of kindness and her commitment to serving others will be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate to know her. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, spending her time solving word search puzzles, baking delicious cakes and sweet potato pies. She also enjoyed cheering on her favorite teams, the Ravens and Orioles, with unwavering enthusiasm. Dora created a warm and nurturing environment for her family filled with care, comfort and countless cherished memories. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Davis, sons Joseph Brown Sr. and Warren Davis and daughter Cheryl Davis. Dora leaves to cherish her memories one son James Davis (Juanita), three daughters, Dianne Grooms (Robert), Pamela Davis/Granddaughter Dawnetta Clark, Charlotte Watson (Joseph), daughters-in-law Charlene Davis and Linda Brown. Two siblings: one sister Georgia L Stuckey and one brother Lendberg “LB” Green (Mary), Two sisters-in-law, Edna Burrowes and Julia Buie. One aunt, Starlene McWhite. One special son, Ashbury Rudd (companion of Pamela Davis). She leaves 15 grandchildren and over 20 great grandchildren, three special friends/coworkers/friends Madeline Daughtery, Dina Thompson and Doris Alston, and a host of family members and friends.
