Dolores Alberta Johnson

Dolores Alberta Johnson (Dee or Momma Dee) was born May 28, 1938, to the late Samuel and Estelle Meekins Joyner of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She departed this life on Monday, July 8,2024 at VCU Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Momma Dee was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Joyner; mother, Estelle Meekins Joyner; brother, Samuel (Ray Ray) Joyner and two sons, Lance and Loring Johnson. Delores was raised in Philadelphia by her mother and stepfather, Samuel Joyner (Gramps). While living in Philly, she attended Philadelphia Public schools and graduated from Kensington High School. Dolores always loved to visit Virginia, the family's home state. As a little girl, she would spend time with her grandparents in New Kent County, and as an adult she spent several summer vacations in Virginia with her cousins, uncles, and aunties. And 1974 she and Sonny decided to relocate their family from Philadelphia to New Kent County, Virginia, where she resided for 50 years. She was employed for many years at Western Electric where she retired at 1998. Dolores had a loving personality and was always willing to show love, support, and kindness to everyone no matter who it would be. If you were in trouble, she would try to help you. She had great love and compassion for others. She had great concern for everyone she was leaving behind on Monday, July 8, 2024. She had her children help her dial the phone so she could talk to as many as her loved ones as possible to say goodbye. She wanted us to know that she loved us, but she was tired. She also told us on the phone that this is our last conversation, but she was ready to go. She didn’t want us to worry because she was alright. At 10:45 PM Monday, July 8, 2024, Heaven gained a new angel...Delores. As her children and grandchildren, tell her hands when she sat out on the final leg of her journey. The moment was peaceful and quiet. No more pain no more sickness no more troubles. Rest of my day. Dolores will be missed, but we will always carry her love and our hearts. 1956 Dolores Mary, the late Leonard B. "Sonny" Johnson Junior. From this union five children were born. She leaves to share her memories two sons Leonard "Lenny" Johnson, III (Mary), and Lyle Johnson (Nakia); one daughter, Lorna Johnson (Eric); ten devoted grandchildren, Antonio Lawton, Jr., Melvin, Rodrick, LaTaisha, LaShae, LaKita, Lorin, Lance and Lakiyah; two great-grandchildren, King and Serenity; three step-granddaughters, Arnae', Jamia, and Miracle; nephew, Anthony Williams; five adopted grandchildren, Lane, Dakota, Kalev, Branden, Isaiah; devoted cousins, Joan Prescott, Rose Carter; special friends, Martha, Shirlene, Fara, Rose Lee, Little Bits, Alisha, Cheyene and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
