Devoria L. Chester

Devoria Lulamae Chester was born to the late Joseph Whitaker Sr. and Beatrice Whitaker on March 24, 1953 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the oldest daughter of four children. She departed this life on Monday, December 16, 2002 after being ill. God beckoned her to His loving call.Devoria received her high school diploma from the Paul Lawrence Dunbar Senior High School in 1971. She pursued a career in nursing. She received a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse and began working at the Belair Convalescent Home for many years, she then worked at Liberty Medical Center, from there she went on to the Baltimore Correctional facilities and ten to the Loving Care nursing facilities until her illness prevailed.Devoria was a very caring person for others and always brought a smile to those she encountered.She married the late Winston B. Chester, Sr. on July 7, 1975 and from this union two beautiful children were born Kya and Winston Jr.“Sister”, as her family and friends affectionately called her, was a very outgoing, loving and nurturing person. She spent a lot of her free time with her nieces, nephews and friends children encouraging them and direction their lives.Sister Devoria Chester joined Refuge Way of the Cross Church of Christ, Inc. on June 15, 1999, where she was a faithful and dedicated member. She was active member of the New Members Committee. Devoria was a second-year student at Apostolic Bible College. She dedicated herself to her church and God’s work. Devoria loved her pastor Bishop Leroy H. Cannady and spoke highly of Elder Isaiah Barber and “Mother” Barber. Sister Chester strived to participate in all church services in spite of her health problems.Sister Chester was a faithful and strong soldier and fought a very good fight. She was loved and cherished by many. Devoria Lulamae Chester was truly a matriarch in her Christian journey.Devoria Lulamae Chester leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved daughter, Kya; a loving son, Winston Jr.; one loving brother, Joseph Whitaker Jr.; a loving daughter-in-law, Laquetta Moore; one special great aunt, Lucille Dickens; two grandchildren, Caron and Khalil: three nieces, three nephews, a host of great nephews, great nieces, aunts, cousins, and many loyal friends including a devoted and close friend, Pamela Mosley; and three godchildren.
