Denise Margaret Leighton-McGowan

Denise Margaret Leighton-McGowan was born on September 23, 1953 to the late James Louis Leighton and Mattie Lue McGowan. She departed this life suddenly on March 4, 2009Denise, known to most as "Piggie" received her education in Baltimore City Public Schools and worked for various companies in the nutritional services. She was emp0loyed for the last four years at Stella Maris as a light duty technician. In addition, her other employment included performing work as a caregiver. Piggie had a passion for cooking and would "break bread" with whoever had an appetite for good food. Fridays at her house was a tradition and also a great relief family and friends. She had an equal love for music and she loved to sing and "Step in the Name of Love." If she liked a song, she would play it over and over and over again.Piggie was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, niece, and friend. She was a ball of fun and would keep you laughing into the wee hours of the night. She was a shoulder to lean on when you needed a helping hand. She would sacrifice her own health to be by your side when you were ill. She would set you straight if you did anything wrong, but would defend you to the end if you were right. Whether you called her Denise, Piggie, Ma, Grandma, Aunt Piggie, or Pooh; she was always there when you needed a helping hand.Piggie had a strong relationship with God. She would often talk with him about her children, she knew where her help came from. She had many, many catchy saying but because of her love for Christ, she would say in a heartbeat: "God got the last say so!"She leaves to cherish her memory her mother Mattie McGowan; sisters Shirley Bennett and Darlene McGowan; sister-in-law Diane McGowan; brothers Anthony McGowan and Derrick Leighton; brother-in-law, Nathaniel Bennett; sons Joseph Tucker, Reginald Frazier, Marcus Pearson, and Nicholes Pearson; daughter Nicole Denise Pearson; daughters-in-law Chanona Frazier and Kenya Tucker; grandchildren Jordan Tucker, Dejoire Frazier, Makyra Pearson, Kenadi Bullock, Kah-yimah Pearson, and Marcus R. Pearson Jr. (preceded in death); nieces and nephews Michelle, Cheryl, Keyon, Donte, Edwin, and Kaila; a host of other relatives and friends; and the whole "Ready Roll" family.
