Deloris Ross Davenport

Our beloved Delores Ross Davenport, 69, waited on the Lord to call her name and she took God’s outstretched hand and walked through the pearly gates of heaven on the early morning of May 5, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born November 15, 1947 in New Kent County to the late Burrell Ross and Mary Frances Washington. She was reared in Kent County with her six siblings, Alice, Queen, Rodney, Wade, Deborah and Robert where they made lots of memories to be passed down to the next generation. She graduated from George W. Watkins High School in 1966 and furthered her education by attending the Richmond Technical Center and graduated in 1975 as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Doris worked as a LPN at the Medical College of Virginia. There she met the love of her life, Paul Lee Davenport and later married him where they remained married for 21 years. In the late 70’s, Delores started her career at McGuire Virginia Medical Center and retired after 27 years of dedicated service. She accepted Christ and began her spiritual journey at Faith Landmark Ministries under the leadership of Rev. Randy Gilbert. She was a faithful member and worshiped in various ministries within the church. Delores was a caring and loving mom and a true realist. She loved her sweepstakes and would win trips and monetary awards. She had love for photography and nature. Deloris would always give you a smile, much love and anything you needed. No matter what, she gave all she could in spite of whatever was going on. God also blessed Deloris with being a beautiful, devoted mother, grandmother and friend who was loved by all. She brought laughter and joy to everyone who graced her presence. Deloris had a tremendously big heart and to know her was truly to love her. She always came in with a glorious smile. She was truly our Wonder Woman...she was as good as gold. The gift of love she left behind will always be treasured. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lee Davenport; sister, Alice J. Wright and brother Wade Ross. She is survived by her caring daughters, Lisa L. Tyson, Charlotte Davenport, Lora Davenport and Stacy Holmes; four adored grandchildren, Michael Archie Jr., Todd Archie, Kayla Tyson and Reginald Holmes, Jr., and a host of other relatives and friends.
