Delores Evans Northington

To everything there is a season… (Ecclesiastes 3:1) A Time to Be Born Delores (Dee) Evans Northington, was the daughter of the late Richard Reese and Ida Evans. She was born on August 15, 1932, in Winston-Salem, NC. A Time to Learn Delores attended Forsyth County Public Schools; relocated to Philadelphia, PA and pursued an education in business. After moving to Richmond, VA, she continued her studies in business at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. A Time to Work Dee was employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Virginia Employment Commission where she retired from in 1995 with 18 years of service having served as Supervisor in the Appeals Section and as a Claims Examiner in Combined Wage. A Time to Love Delores at a young age married the late Richard Glover, Sr. Later in her life, she was wed in holy matrimony to Edward Northington on March 7, 1979. Dee enjoyed traveling the country with her husband and they enjoyed simply being together in their home. She loved and adored their family and people in general. Dee presented herself to be friendly therefore folk from all walks of life were drawn to that beautiful smile and charming personality. A Time to Serve Delores was raised in the Catholic faith, but in 1982 she was baptized at Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Dr. Leroy M. Bray, Jr. Delores was ordained as a Deacon on April 13, 1997. She loved to help others and served as Director of Missions at RMZ for six years. She also served as a Hospice volunteer, Meals on Wheels, Emergency Shelter and Caritas-setting up programs to feed and house the homeless. In addition to the many other organizations, she worked with Second Chance, an organization that houses Aids victims. Although she had health issues, each year she generously donated to others who needed a helping hand, often unanimously. Deacon Northington loved studying the Bible. She served as a Church School Teacher, taught classes on Women in the Bible. She never lost her excitement about learning more about the Lord and demonstrated that she truly loved Him. Delores belonged to numerous civic organizations, always dedicated to helping others, such as Les Dix Madames of Philadelphia, PA, and American Business Women Association (ABWA) of Richmond, VA, both organizations sponsored scholarships for deserving students. A Time to Die Delores Northington departed this life to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning, June 6, 2017. She transitioned to eternal rest at her home surrounded by loved ones. A Time to Mourn She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Northington. Surviving to cherish fond memories are three sons, Richard Glover, Jr. (Majida) of Philadelphia, PA., Brian (Joan) and Darryl Glover (Terry) Richmond, VA; and one daughter, Ayoola Ogunsina of Philadelphia, PA; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister Vera Phillips, Atlanta GA; and a host of other relatives and friends, among them two devoted, Margaret Wimberly and Rev. Sandra Smalls. “To God Be the Glory”
