Delores Marilyn Lee

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Our treasured family jewel Delores M. Lee was called home to be with the Lord on August 1, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Maydell Lee; three brothers Thomas Jr., Jethro, Sr. and Robert Lee; two sisters Emma C. Crews, Thomasine E. Sturtevant; daughter Louretha R. Lee, and granddaughter Natalya Mathis. Delores was born on April 2, 1936 in Richmond, Virginia. She was educated in the Richmond City Public Schools. She committed her life to Christ at an early age as a member of the Fifth Baptist Church in Richmond, VA and carried God in her heart throughout her life. Delores began her professional career working in the family restaurant “Thomas Grill” located on Brunswick Street in the West End of Richmond, VA. She later continued her employment as a food services worker with the public school system. She eventually relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she resided with her long-time companion Mr. Clifford Bradley, Jr. until his death. Delores, affectionately known as “Roe” to her family, and “Dee” to her close friends, was a very spirited and independent woman. Greatly poised, and always had a snappy come back. She was a an excellent cook, and nothing made her happier than to feed her family, especially during the holidays. She enjoyed traveling, particularly when it was to the casinos with friends, or back to her hometown of Richmond, Virginia. In her leisure time, she could be found in front of the TV watching her “stories” and other favorite programs. During visits with the hospice chaplain at home, she was able to rededicate herself to God through hymns and prayers. She’d respond “Beautiful” and ask, “you bring me any new songs?” She leaves to cherish her memory: son, DeVoy Lee; six beloved grandchildren, Rusheev Lee (devoted Trisha Lee), Coty Hewlett, Nina Noble, Latefia Burnett, Ebonie Turner, and Devoy Ellis; ten great-grandchildren, adored Semaj Lee; two sisters, Ethel Wood (Theodore) and Alice Myles (Gary); three brothers, Clarence Lee, Chastine Lee, and Percy Lee; a host of nephews, nieces, loving April Fisher; and other relatives and friends.
