Delores White Goode

Delores White Goode, 68, of Richmond, Virginia departed this life Friday, November 22, 2013. She was born April 22, 1945 to the late Haywood and Josephine White. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Goode. She received her formal education in the Richmond Public School System and graduated from Maggie Walker High School in 1966. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very early age. She extended her spiritual membership and was united with Good Shepherd Baptist Church where she served on the usher board for many years and other duties as needed. Delores was united in holy matrimony with Robert Lee Goode on February 7, 1968 in Richmond, Virginia. From that union two sons were born. She was employed by MCV in the Environmental Services Department, until her health started to decline. In 1998, Delores had to take early retirement. Her leisure time consisted of listening to all types of music and watching her favorite television shows, especially the Steve Harvey Show. Delores had a specialized “green thumb”. A lover of plants and caring for them properly, especially her “peace lily”. She also volunteered in the soup kitchen at 31st Street Baptist Church twice a week feeding the homeless and donated toys to children in need. Delores will always be remembered as a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and special friend to many. She lived a life of harmony, unity and adored butterflies. Our home growing up was a place of refuge for the neighborhood kids. They looked up to her as their neighborhood mother. She taught us love and respect by example. There were never harsh words or anger. We know more of selfless love by her example. She leaves to cherish her memory two caring sons, Maurice W. Goode, Sr. (Davonya) and Kevin L. Goode; two grandchildren, Maurice W. Goode Jr. and Miles A. Goode; devoted caregiver, William H. Daniel Jr. (Rice); two sisters-in-law, Ada G. Taylor and Mary White; a host of other relatives, special friends and neighbors. Because of the wonderful love she shared, she will never be forgotten and will always be in our hearts. We are so fortunate to have had her in our lives and we feel empty without her.
