Delores Dixon

ELDER DELORES ISABELLE DIXON, wife of the late Elder George Henry Dixon Sr., departed this life on Sunday May 4, 2014. Delores was born December 18, 1922 to the late Stephen Alexander Young and the late Eva Mae Young. Raised by saved parents, Delores grew up in the church and at the age of 17 she received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. She began preaching at the age of 19 under the leadership of the late Bishop Walter Madison Warner. She pioneered with Bishop Warner as he began the formation of the Mt. Olive Holy Evangelistic Church. Delores graduated from Frederick Douglass High School. She was a trained seamstress and tailor, and was also known for the delicious and beautiful cakes she baked. She wore beautiful hats. Delores was blessed with the ministry of Gospel music. She, along with her sisters the late Marion Wharton, Rosalie Roberts and Elsie Charleton, well known as the Young Sisters, filled many churches with praise as their melodious, spirit-filled voices sang throughout Baltimore City. In 1950, Delores met and married George Henry Dixon and reared 5 daughters and 1 son in the Apostolic faith. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. As God continued to move within Delores Dixon's life, she was led to assist the work prepared for her at the St. James Apostolic Church in Glen Burnie under the leadership of Bishop Gene Johnson and later Bishop Larry Thomas. Throughout her more than 20 years of dedicated service at St. James, she served as choir member, drummer, Sunday school teacher, Assistant Pastor, National Secretary and Overseer. She was an ardent and devoted member. With her busy lifestyle, you could find Delores assisting the late Mother Irene Johnson traveling all over the city preaching, singing, visiting the sick and helping people. She was known for her love for young people, uplifting and encouraging them to give their lives to Christ. She has given her life for a good cause, bestowing freely and unselfishly her talent, influence and time for the betterment of the community in which she lived. She touched all phases of the religious, social and civic life of people. Due to health problems, Elder Delores Dixon became unable to attend St. James Church and in 2001 she joined the Greater Church of the Risen Savior pastored by Pastor Victor M. Folks. She served as Church Mother, soloist, praise and worship leader and counselor to many young people. To celebrate her homegoing and rejoice in her memory, Delores Isabelle Dixon leaves: her 5 daughters, Eva Linda, Valerie E., Catherine M., Pamela A., Angela O., and son, George Henry Jr.; grandchildren, Stefan A., Erica M., Alicia O., Kevin L., Frederick A., Jennifer L., Jonathan M, Darrell N., Little Angie, Deloran L., Jared H.; great-grandchildren, Candi, Dominic, Tony, Khloe, Raven, Bryson, Alexis, Logan, Amaya, Amani, Zion, Zaylah, Jaliel, Skylar; great-great-grandchildren, Travon and Zayden; 3 fantastic sons-in-law, Jonathan Wilson, Daryl Burrell and Roland Wilson; a host of nieces, nephews and friends including very close friend, Ms. Selmar Burrell.
