Delois Burgess

A godly life ended November 2, 2002 when Delois Burgess, “Lois” as she was affectionately called, was suddenly taken from us. On August 5, 1948, Delois Burgess, on of nine children, was born in Manning, South Carolina to the late Leroy Burgess and the late Ella Lee Burgess. Lois was a humorous, caring, soft hearted, generous individual loved by her family and friends.After migrating to Baltimore, she joined the James Tabernacle Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Willie R. Burgess Sr. She received salvation through the preaching of the gospel. She worked untiringly in the culinary department. She was a great cook-a chef in her own right.Lois loved her family and was a loving mother. She called her sons “My Boys.” She was also a devoted grandmother.Lois had a surrogate mother, Mrs. Violet Stoakley, a grandmother to the children, friend and counselor and Michelle Trent; Lois’s surrogate daughter provided love and support to the family. Lois’s commitment was to service God as well as the church.There are three steps to heaven-out of self, into Christ, into Glory, Delois took these steps in life and lived a beautiful life in Christ. Now she has taken the third step where there is no more weeping, no pain, no sorrow, and no disappointment. Two sons, Aaron Burgess and Isaac Burgess; two brothers, Alfred Burgess and Willie R. Burgess, Sr preceded her in death.Fondest memories will live on in the lives of her family and friends, who loved and cherished her the most: three sons, Jackie, Randel, Jacob Burgess, Sr.; two daughters-in-law, Marsha and Pamela Burgess; twelve grandchildren, Reggie, Monicka, Darryl, Joshua Stanley, Joshua Randel, Paris, Jacob Jr., Christopher, Isaiah, Aaron Jackie, Mira’ma and Aaron Jr.; nine sisters and three brothers, Daisy Pearson, Missionary Cassie Mitchell, Jessie Lee Wilson, Mari Servance, Elder Amos Burgess, Sr., Evangelist Elizabeth Blanding, Shirley Ann McCray, Carolyn Bryant, Frank Brunson, John Brunson, Wilbur Brunson, Ella Mae Brunson, Martha Amos; one brother-in-law, Burnes Blanding; two sisters-in-law, Susie Burgess and Rosa Burgess; two aunts, Esther Davis and Leah Brown; a host of nieces, including special nieces, Shanice V. Wilson, Edrena Wilson, Cynthia Furman and Sharon Servance; special nephews, Stearlin Blanding and James Addison; and godson, Jason Wilson.
