Della Katherine Cosby Coverton

Della Katherine Cosby Coverton ascended into her heavenly home on February 26, 2023, as her two sons, Ronald and Vernon, her parents, Willie and Della Cosby, and other family and friends awaited her arrival. Baby Della, as known by many, was born July 28, 1930, and enjoyed a beautiful full life centered around her immediate family, extended family, community, and many friends, all devoted. They often looked for her wise and humorous counsel and were never surprised at her delivery or what she had to say. Her loyalty was unmeasured and so was her honesty. That infectious laugh could be found easily and often during many conversations with those she held close. She never met a stranger and loved to tell a joke to anyone. Della drove the school bus for Henrico County Virginia for forty-two years, and the students knew the rules on “Miss Coverton’s bus”. She believed that improved behavior on the bus lead to better students in the classroom. Many students she transported to school reached out over the years letting her know that they were well and that in fact, they learned that she was driving their grandchildren to school. The height of her driving career was when Henrico County featured her maneuvering the bus in the training video for school bus drivers. Della was surrounded by love and affection across her lifespan and this love continued to be shown during her last days. She is survived by a big devoted family including her children: Robert Harry Coverton,( Berlin Germany); Nehemiah Malachi, Jill Coleman (Chris), and Geoffrey Coverton; grandsons, Gerrin Coverton (Ashley), Samiel Malachi and Jullian Coverton; one great-grandchild, Nylah Katalina Coverton; her sisters; Lois Brown; Carolyn Brown (Warren); Linda Taylor (Barry Sr.) and Patricia Cosby; sisters- In-law, Shirley Cosby, and Thelma Cosby; many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews and other family members. Four siblings preceded her in death, Willie Cosby III, Robert Cosby, Shirley Wingfield, Marian Shelton, and David Cosby. Today, we celebrate our mother, our grandmother, our great-grandmother, our sister, our aunt, our family, and our friend, because of the gift from God she was to us. We will miss you and love you forever.
