David Scott Ferron

On July 7, 2014, David lost his battle with lupus-induced kidney disease. The second son born to John and Betty Ferron, David Scott Ferron was baptized as a member of Mt. Olivet Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. He was a bright and happy child who loved fishing, dancing, roller-skating and the outdoors. Often, he could be found relaxing on a wooden perch he constructed amid the high branches of a tree in his front yard where he could quietly observe the neighborhood. David also had a special rapport with children and animals, including “Panky,” a hamster named Pinky, whose name he could not pronounce because he was missing his front teeth. He once brought home a crayfish from a fishing trip and kept it as a pet for more than a year—which a pet store owner said he had never witnessed. David struggled with shyness and deep insecurities, and, in his early teens, he began a long struggle with substance abuse and the resulting consequences. Despite his ups and downs, David frequently wrote touching, eloquent letters to his parents and never lost his ability to make insightful social observations and charm people with his dry wit and heartfelt laughter. A gifted pianist with the ability to play songs after hearing them once, David performed at a young age with an instructor from Peabody Conservatory, but found it difficult to participate in recitals. He returned to his love for music later in life, by singing with a gospel choir while in New York, and playing piano for church services while living in Charleston, South Carolina. David was educated in several Maryland schools, including Windsor Hills Elementary (#87), Garrison Junior High School, the McDonogh School, and Walbrook High School. Due to medical issues, he left during his senior year and completed his GED a few months later. He enrolled in the Army National Guard, and was discharged after completing basic training in Fort Lee, New Jersey. David had a lifelong fascination with electronics, and completed an electronics apprenticeship program at Anne Arundel Community College with an average grade of ninety-seven percent. During his time in Charleston, he earned additional certifications that allowed him to repair computerized office equipment. David lived life on his own terms to the very end, and he will be sorely missed by those who loved him. He is survived by: devoted parents John and Betty Ferron; siblings John, Jr. and Deidre; nieces Danielle and Rachael; nephews Brandon and Carter; uncles Alfred, Donald and Ernest Ferron; former companion Michelle Felder; five grand-nieces and nephews; numerous cousins, classmates, neighbors, and friends in Maryland and South Carolina.
