David Elmore Jordan

On June 30, 2003 at Bon Secours Hospital at 11:30 p.m., God surveyed the land and gathered his loyal servants; David was amongst them. God saw his suffering and said “no more.” He reached out his hand and led David home.David Elmore Jordan was born on September 26, 1915 to the late Robert and Ella Jane Jordan in Islewright County, Virginia. David was the third born of 13 siblings. He was educated in the Virginia public school system.In his early 20's, David left the comfort of his family in search of a better life. His search led him to Baltimore, Maryland. After numerous odd jobs, David landed employment at Bethlehem Steel where he worked for 40 years. In 1978, he retired.David was a self-made man. He worked hard at various enterprises to ensure his financial future. To ensure a greater future, David married his childhood sweetheart Mary Grace Williams (June 16, 1941). To this union two children were born, Jane Denise Jordan and David Jerome Jordan. He was a devoted husband and father.As David worked his way through life, he decided to ask God to be a part of his journey. David joined Faith Baptist Church and was a member for over 50 years. While at Faith he was a member of the men’s choir and sang proudly.To enrich his life more, David joined the Masons. First he joined the Eureka Lodge No. 3, then later he moved his membership to Antioch Lodge No. 11, AF & AM. There he served as treasurer, a job he kept longer than any member in the history of the lodge. For this feat, the lodge bestowed the honor of lifetime member.David had many interests in his life. As a young man, he enjoyed hunting, gardening and fishing. The deterioration of David’s eyesight stopped him from hunting. Failing health stopped him from gardening but he continued to fish. David loved to fish and as his health deteriorated more, he often said how much he wanted to go fishing again. On June 30, 2003 God said, “Come with me David, you shall fish for eternity.”David leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Jane Denise Jordan; one son, David Jerome Jordan; one sister, Ella Mae Harrison; two brothers, Robert H. and Lenious Jordan. David eternally joins siblings Viola Edwards, Ruby Key, Elizabeth Brickhouse, Earnest Jordan, Emmett Jordan, Rosia Jordan, Frank Jordan, Sylvester Jordan and Purnell Jordan; six sisters-in-law, Ruth Jordan, Geraldine Jordan, Marie Allmond, Beatrice W. Pittman, and Cora Williams; three brothers-in-law, Bruce Williams, David Allmond, Rev. James Johnson; two special friends, Peggy Johnson and Rev. Joseph Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a loving church family and friends.
