David Walter Easley

David Walter Easley was born on February 7 1947 in Ansted, West Virgina. He was the fifth of nine children born to the late Virtie and Tommie Easley. He is preceded in death by his first wife Gilda Hammond Easley, two brothers, William Easley, Thomas Easley and a sister Kathleen Wildmon. He attended schools in Ansted, West Virginia. He gave his life to the Lord at an early age at Mount Chapel Baptist Church. in Ansted. Dave moved to Washington, DC with his sister Alberta and brother-in-law Leroy Hart. During his stay in Washington, he obtained employment with the District of Columbia Department of Public Works Sanitation until retirement. He also played semi-professional football for the District of Columbia Stonewalls. Dave loved to watch sports, especially his favorite team, Washington Commanders formerly known as the Washington Redskins. Upon leaving Washington, DC he moved to Baltimore, Maryland and continued working with the DC Public Works until he retired. Here he united with Maranatha Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of the late founding Pastor Rev. Dr. Earnest L. Ross. During this time, Pastor Ross seen his integrity and willingness to serve and appointed him as a Church Trustee. Dave continued to serve faithfully under the Pastorship of Rev. Dr. Doris E.Johnson. He joyfully led the church in powerful uplifting prayer whenever asked. He enjoyed singing with the Male Ensemble, working on the kitchen committee where he was appointed their fish fryer and grill master. You couldn't tell Dave nothing when it came to frying fish and grilling. Dave remained in good standing with Maranatha Church for 45 years until his passing. Dave leaves to cherish his wife of 18yrs, Clementine (Tina) Smith-Easley, son David Pitts. From the 1st blended family- daughter - Gilda L. Hammond; sons - Phillip (Cherie) Peay, Walter (Chareese) Perry Jr.; from the 2nd blended family, sons - Dejuan (Sandra) Davis, Carlandzo (Deborah) Smith; daughters - Vivica, Deirka, and Coralynn Smith and Quanic (Rahim) Jenkins; One brother, John Howard Easley (Gail) of Baltimore, MD. Four sisters, Alberta Hart of Washington, DC, Carol Robertson of Baltimore, MD, Verna (Norman) Jackson, Raleigh, WV and Sheral Manns of Beckley, WV. Grandchildren - Malcom (Nijah), Brie, Nathan, Konstance, Walter III., Chareese, Alexis, Phillip Jr., Three aunts, Nannie Haskin of Cleveland, Oh, Brenda (Harrison) Randall, Baltimore, MD and Vickie Tyler, Florida. Sisters-In-Laws - Cheryl (William) Easley, Pearline (Ronald) Easley, Maria Barnes, Deborah Green, Keith (Regina) Hammond, and Donna (Duan) Cato, Gwendolyn (Tommy) Langhorn, Jewel Martin-Leach, Brenda Smith; Brothers-In-Laws - Jolowell (Veronica) Hogan, Zachary Martin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and Maranatha Memorial Baptist Church Family. Dave fought a long but good fight. He said, I didn't come this far by Faith all these years to give up! After having been placed on a ventilator a few days and coming off, he told us, "VICTORY IS MINE! Dave got the Victory. He overcame, death to a New Life in Glory. The Word of God says in 2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. We believe that during his quiet state on the ventilator, with Family by his bedside, that Dave got a visit from the Angel of God and gave him the Victory over death and life.
