Darrell Brown, Sr

DARRELL BROWN SR. was born on August 21, 1957 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late James Brown and Odella (Lawson) Brown. Christ called Darrell home to his eternal resting place in the wee hours of the morning on Sunday, September 7, 2025. Darrell received his early Christian education at The Nazarene Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland where his family attended faithfully. In October of 2007, he felt the need to re-commit his life to Christ through baptism. Darrell attended and graduated from Lake Clifton High School in May 1975. They say it takes a village to raise a child and that’s what Darrell had. His aunts, uncles and older cousins played a pivotal role in his upbringing and that of his brothers. He was blessed to come from such a close knit family who loved the Lord. Darrell joined the Baltimore City Police Department as a cadet in 1976 and was assigned to the Cherry Hill community where he spent his entire 29 years of service until he retired. Darrell absolutely loved being a Police Officer. He was well respected in the community by those he served and he forged an unbreakable bond with his brothers and sisters in blue, a fraternal connection that endured throughout his life and career. Darrell loved his family beyond measure. He was generous to a fault and was the consummate provider. Darrell didn’t just provide materially, but gave his kids joyful memories—Disney World, the beach, amusement parks, Bahamas cruises, even commandeering the ice cream man during hot summer days. He was his kids’ biggest cheerleader. He showed his love not just in words, but in actions. Whether it was standing on the pier after Nikki’s deployment or attending Darrell Jr.’s football games, he gave everything he had for his family. Darrell was also an avid Oriole fan since his childhood. There is not a stat on the Orioles for the last 30 years that he could not quote. Darrell was quick with wit, always had a comeback line and was funny beyond belief. We will miss him dearly. Darrell was preceded in death by his brother Morris. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Joanne; daughter, Nikki; son, Darrell Jr.; grandson, Ryan; brother, Kevin and sister-in-law, Lisa Brown; and a host of other relatives and friends.
