Daniel Lamont Wilson

Daniel L. Wilson, AKA Danny, son of the late Norma Wilson and Daniel E. Wilson was born on March 4, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on Wednesday, October 17th after a lengthy illness. He received his education at Edmonson High School in Baltimore in 1965. He also attended Baltimore City Community College where he received his Associates degree. After completing his degree at BCCC, he continued on to University of Maryland, College Park and received a Bachelor of Science degree. Danny started his career in 1966, serving his country in the United States Air Force as a weapons mechanic. He spent 4 years in the military and eventually continued that service for an additional 39 years at the National Security Agency (NSA) until his retirement in 2010. He married Vernetta Barry on April 13, 1985. Even though out of this union, no children were born, Danny became a step-father and raised their daughter Kia from the tender age of five. Danny was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, father-in-law, uncle, nephew and friend. He was known for his adventurous story telling. He was truly blessed with the ability to make everyone laugh from his family and friends to people at the pawn shop, the Goodwill store, the storage facility and everyone in between. Virtually everyone that he came in contact with has a hilarious “Danny” story. He definitely left an indelible imprint on the lives of all he touched. If you have a chance, ask Vernetta or Kia about the snake story, the roof story, or most recently, the infamous airport adventure. He loved coupon and recipe collecting and as a matter of fact, Danny loved collecting EVERYTHING. Also, his love for flowers were known throughout the neighborhood. He even gave flower bulbs to the Cancer Infusion Center which are now blooming in the Northwest Hospital’s “Hope Garden”. He was a proud member of the 1965 Class Reunion Committee of Edmonson High School. Through his love for this special group, they have become lifetime friends. His love for his wife is legendary. If you saw Danny, you better believe Vernetta was close by his side. They always travelled extensively, laughed, and loved together. They were affectionately referred to as Danny and Vernetta or Vernetta and Danny. They were truly a married couple that stayed together through thick and thin. He raised his daughter Kia to be a wonderful young woman. He would always give her advice about money and how to be as frugal as humanly possible. He constantly told her to only buy used car tires, why buy them new?!!! He loved being a “dance dad” taking Kia to her dance competitions all over Maryland and beyond. He was so happy when Kia met Mike and they got married. His grandkids, Kayla and Kendyl had his heart. They would call him Granddad and he would be putty in their hands. He would take them for walks around the neighborhood when they came to visit him. It was during these walks that he would share with them his wisdom and life lessons. He leaves to cherish his memory; his lovely wife Vernetta, one daughter Kia Castille, son-in-law Michael Castille, two grandchildren Kayla and Kendyl, three sisters Roslyn McLean,Denise Wilson, and Dale McCain, brother-in-law Carl McCain, Godson Billy Meekins, only living aunt Marjorie Price, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and great friends.
