Daniel Rodney Green

On May 28, 2011, in the same month his father Danny was actually born, the Lord called our beloved Rodney home during the early morning hours after suffering what this time proved to be a fatal seizure. Rodney’s grandparents, Paula and the late Daniel Green, Sr., raised him as their son, subsequent to his father Danny Junior’s death. Rodney was educated in Baltimore City schools, both catholic and public. He was smart, a quick-study, dependable and a very capable young man. He was also very protective of his family and of others about whom he loved and cared deeply. Affectionately call “Boo-Boo” in his close circle of friends many of whom are his late father’s buddies from back –in-the day to whom he’s became endeared and who have watched over him Rodney loved spending time with them on Sheila’s porch or at Pogo’s house, doing the things that friends do together: enjoying cook-outs and good conversation; card parties; listening to music; and simple helping one another when needed. They too were his family and were good to him, and he was quick to tell you that if you didn’t already know. He also loved sushi, the Steelers, feeding bread to the geese, and he absolutely relished the Motown sound and the rest of the “old school” music of that era. His favorite song was the Gap Band, which he said reminded him of his father. In this and some other ways he was munch like an “old soul” to be so young. He adored both of his grandparents whom he called “Pop-Pop” (Danny, Sr., his grandfather), and “Ma” (his grandmother Paula), about whom he often said “That’s my baby”, and was extremely protected of her. Rodney would be there when you needed him, always ready to lend support and assist. Even when he wasn’t feeling well, he would push himself to help. His favorite saying at those times was “What you need me to do?” his absolute first love, however was cooking, which he did as often as he could, for as many as he could possibly feed, at any given time. He was a darned good cook and could have made a career of it. He derived great pleasure and gratification from feeding those he loved and knowing they enjoyed it. One of Rodney’s greatest aspirations was to help the homeless and he did so by providing them home cooked meals during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday, along with his friend Chanel. Like his father, he had a big heart and equally big love for those whom he cared and those who needed to be cared for. Our beloved “Boo-Boo” had yet another side to him and yet another nickname; this one coined by little people. He loved children, and thusly they fondly dubbed him the “Candy Man” because he always kept candy for them, which he distributed from a candy jar he reserved just for them. It was said that “When Rodney had a dollar he would give it to a child.” It was also loving remarked that Rodney was a forgiving person and forgave his enemies, even in some cases those who wronged him repeatedly and were undeserving of it. He truly just wanted to get along, but when that wasn’t allowed, he was equally determined to stand up for himself when warranted, and make his point. He was a good person and a fun person to be around, often entertaining us at family gathering with his comedic talent. The family often told him he “missed his calling” as an HBO stand-up. And those who did not know him, missed out on something pretty special…
