Daisy Darrell Lumley

DAISY DARRELL LUMLEY (MCKAY) was born on August 11,1926 to Bonito McKay Mcand Lona Satchell, in Swain Spring, St. Andrew, Jamaica West Indies. She was raised by her aunt Ethel McKay. She attended Red Hills Primary School. She was a kind, loving, compassionate and peaceful woman. Daisy met and married Izette Manning Lumley on June 29, 1955. He preceded her in death on December 15, 1994. From their union and partnership they raised ten children; Gloria, derrick, Fitzroy, Rylan (deceased), Monica, Irma (deceased), Hubert, Kenneth, Jenifer and Michael. Daisy was passionate about her parental responsibility. No task was too difficult for her to do for the betterment and care of her children. She was preceded in death by her brothers Clifford, George, Noel and Roy McKay and Anthony Patton; her sisters Cassandra Herron and Vera Plummer. In Jamaica, Daisey was a very active member of the Sterling Castle United Methodist Church. She saw the need and purchased a new podium and communion table for the church. She adorned the pulpit, communion table and podium with covers of artistic designs. Daisy or D. Mac as she was affectionately known to her family and friends was a very industrious and talented seamstress. This was evident as she was sought out by many people who traveled long distances to hire her as family. On January 1975, with the assistance of her eldest child Gloria, she migrated to Baltimore, Maryland. Shortly after being in the United States she accepted a housekeeping position with the Rubin’s family and began to pursue reuniting with her children. She made many sacrifices, and through perseverance she was able to reunite six of her children here in Baltimore from Jamaica within five years. Daisey was the lighthouse for her family. She instilled high moralistic values in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She led her family by living an exemplary lifestyle which was admired and appreciated by everyone. She was a member of the Arlington-Lewin United Methodist Church. On April 14, 2005, Daisy’s health began to spiral downwards which left her with limited mobility. Despite her illness she kept a smile on her loved ones faces with her loving remarks, gracious smile, warm personality and wonderful sense of humor. Daisy trusted God and counted on Him to guide her through any challenge that she encountered. She was blessed and content with herself and her accomplishments. On December 1, 2010, she peacefully answered the Lord’s call and returned to his flock. Daisy is survived by: her brother and sisters George and Eslin Barton and Petra Patton eight children, Gloria and Derick Burke, Fitzroy Lewis, Monica, Hubert, Kenneth and Michael Lumley and Jenifer Philportts, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, four godchildren; daughter-in-law, Glender Harding-Burke, Diana Lewis and Carmen Lumley; sister-in-law, Carmen and Miriam McKay; many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Daisy will be sadly missed by all, especially by her children. She is at peace and is around the throne of God.
