Cynthia Torain. Shields

Cynthia Torain Shields, the youngest child born to the late Bena Jennings-Torain and Ernest Torain, Sr in Baltimore, Maryland on February 11, 1952 She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Torain, Jr and Joseph Torain, both of Baltimore,Maryland. On April 1, 2014 God called for his daughter, Cynthia to come home. An Angel was dispatched to her home to escort her to her heavenly home. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Cynthia accepted Christ at an early age as her personal Savior. She received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. Cynthia found love and was married to Melvin Jerome Shields. From this union they were blessed with two wonderful children, David M. and Donna M. Shields. Cynthia was a special mom who loved and nurtured her children, stressed education and the importance of knowing and serving God She was an avid reader (especially the written Word of God). Writer, loved to cook, enjoyed computer games and crossword puzzles. Cynthia loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends. She was especially happy with teaching her grandchildren and watching them grow. She was employed with Mold craft Company for many years and worked in childcare for the last 23 years. Prior to her departure, she had the joy of caring for her youngest grandchild, Jeremiah, which happens to be her favorite book of the Bible. She loved the Lord and enjoyed doing the work of a soldier in His army. She was a true worshiper and did not mind giving God her best praise. Cynthia was a longtime member of the Mt Calvary Freewill Baptist Church where she faithfully served. She was a member of the Farrow Gospel Singers, the Sanctuary Choir, a student of the word, very active in Sunday school and weekly Bible Study Classes. Cynthia always had a word of encouragement for everyone that she came in contact with. She would go out her way to help others and was known for sitting with those who were sick and shut in. Cynthia had a natural smile on her face and a calm spirit, which made others feel at ease, regardless of what was going on. She exhibited the love and the compassion of Christ. Cynthia always had a way of letting you know that she genuinely cared. She was a great blessing to the lives of many and a true example of “If I can help somebody as I travel along... then my living will not be in vain.” Cynthia leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted children, David Shields, (Jackie) and Donna Maduabuchi (Ephraim) both of Baltimore, Maryland; Stepson, Micheal Chambers (Sandra) of Hampton Virginia; Grandchildren, LaToya Chambers, Delorian Shields (Gwendolyn), Christopher Chambers, Chike' Maduabuchi, Jahnessah Shields, Caleb Cambers, Maariah Shields, Jon Micheal Shields, Victoria Chambers, Maariah Shields and Jeremiah Maduabuchi; Great-grandchildren, Chrishun, Aaliviyah and chole one sister Marlene Lemons (John-deceased) of Hickory Flat, Mississippi; Special nephew Kevin Brown (Xan); Christian of Tennessee, Marcus of Mississippi, Kevin Jr. and Dominique Baltimore; sister-in-law JeanetteTorian (Joseph-deceased); Devoted cousin who was liker her brother, James Epps (Lena) of Newport News, Virginia; Godchildren, Adina and Makaila Ballah; a very special life sister, Geraldine White; devoted friends, Minnie Battle, Maxine Marshall, Kizzie Lester, and Minister Sandy Rivers; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
