Curtis Warren Thompson

Curtis Warren Thompson. departed this life on Sunday, January 11, 2026. He was born to the late Deacon Major Woodrow Wilson Thompson and Deaconess Beatrice Brooks Thompson. He was preceded in death by his son, Curtis Warren Thompson, Jr., his brother, Major Junius Thompson, and two sisters, Joyce Thompson and Catherine T. Sharpe. Warren, as he was known to his family and childhood friends, was educated through the Hanover County Public School System. At an early age, he joined First Union Baptist Church in Mechanicsville, VA. He had a deep-rooted faith and knew that, in all situations, God was in control. He was a people person and never met a stranger. He served as an Usher until his health precluded his doing so. His love for God, his family, his church, his friends, and neighbors was endless. A tractor-trailer driver for his entire career, he logged in more than one million interstate and intrastate travel miles. He loved the open road and the freedom of “being his own boss” when he was behind the wheel. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, belonging to Teamsters Joint Council No. 83 of Virginia. A diehard sports fan, Warren faithfully cheered for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies. He also enjoyed NASCAR races, PGA Golf, and old cowboy movies. He never missed the evening news and kept up with current events. Warren served as a board member for the Greater Richmond Bowling Association. During league play, he bowled a perfect 300 game! League bowling is where he met his wife, Lorraine. He “struck” up a conversation and “bowled” her over with his charming personality - and continued to do so for the remainder of his life. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Lorraine Melancon Carragher Thompson. He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Wilnet Denise Thompson, one granddaughter, Tyra Denise Thompson, one great-grandson, Joshua Lee Thompson, a devoted stepson, Michael James Carragher (Kate), one loving brother, Aubrey Thompson, Sr. (Judy), one brother-in-law, Arthur P. Sharpe (LaTaunya), one sister-in-law, Louise Melancon Laforest (Jerry), two foster brothers, Hassan Hakim aka Lacy Thompson and Leroy Thompson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
