Curtis James Hopkins

Curtis James Hopkins, Jr., 60, of Richmond, Virginia peacefully entered into eternal life, Wednesday, April 5, 2017. He was born June 11, 1956 to the late Florence Virginia Hopkins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Rosa and Curtis James Hopkins Sr.; aunt, Lorraine “Tootsie Gal” Newman; sister-in-law, Janet Hall-Lane and a brother-in-law, John C. Lane. Curtis received his education from the Richmond Public School System, attending George Washington Carver Elementary, Benjamin A. Graves Junior High, and Maggie L. Walker High School. During his junior year at Maggie Walker he was the Drum Major of the marching band. Curtis joined the Saint Paul’s Baptist Church at an early age and remained a very loyal faithful member. He was an active member of the Music Ministry having sung in the Youth Choir, Gospel Creations, Combined Choir and the Male Chorus. He also sang with the gospel group One Accord. Curtis enlisted into the United States Navy serving his country proudly and received an honorable discharge. He was formerly employed with Phillip Morris USA and the City of Richmond Public Schools. Curtis was an entertainer. He entertained through his singing, pranks and impersonation of those dear to him. There are so many things that can be said about him, but what greater tribute could there be for us to share his love, smile, laughter, giving heart, and positive spirit as we continue his legacy by serving Christ. The gifts of love he left behind will always be treasured. He leaves to cherish in loving memory a wife, Teresa Anthony-Hopkins of 20 wonderful years; five children, Kanika Hopkins, Kaylah Hurst, Laquita Cobb (Tiwan), Bashir Anthony (Serpil) and Benjamin Anthony; one sister-in-law, Joann Wiley (Sidonald); three brothers-in-law, Anthony Peasant, Clarence Peasant (Sybil) and James Rogers; twelve grandchildren, Tariq T, Romeo D. and Keyon T. Anthony, Tiwan M. Jr., Breana N., James L., Aureanna R., Tawana L., Mariah G. and Mya N. Cobb, Alecia J. and Desiree R. Price; two great-grandchildren, Aniyah M. Price and Aiden J. Thompson; one nephew, James Rogers, II; three nieces, Shereta, Ashley, and Jacqueline Wiley; a host of other relatives and friends. Curtis’ spirit will linger on forever.
