Craig Leroy Johnson

Craig Leroy Johnson entered eternal rest on December 19, 2025, at the age of 70. He was born on October 1, 1955, in Prince George County, Virginia, to the late Rachel Virginia Johnson and Rufus “Eyeball” Johnson, Sr., who raised him with strong roots in faith, family, resilience, and principles that shaped the man he would become. He was also preceded in death by one of his children, Maurice Bailey, and his brother, Charles “Tanky” Johnson. Craig was raised in the Richmond area and attended Highland Springs High School. In 1973, at a young age, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army, choosing service during the year he was expected to graduate high school. He served diligently and was honorably discharged in 1976. His time in the Army shaped his independence, discipline, and work ethic, qualities that would later define his life’s work. Following his military service, Craig built a living with his hands as a master carpenter. He was known for his rare ability to see what others imagined and bring it to life. Whether a project was large or small, simple or complex, he executed visions with precision, pride, and care. His work stands as a quiet testimony to his skill, creativity, and perseverance. Craig accepted Christ and was baptized at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia. He later joined Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he remained connected in faith. His journey with God was personal and real, grounded not in perfection, but in grace. Craig was a man of honesty. There were no pretenses and no disguises. What he was, he was fully, and what he gave, he gave genuinely. His life was not without struggle, but it was marked by truth, endurance, and grace. He loved deeply, lived authentically, and stood firmly in who he was. As a result, he left an imprint that cannot be undone. Craig leaves to cherish his memory his five children: Darrick Burton (Shikita), Benton Johnson, Craig Collins (Jamie), Breana Johnson, and Craylon Johnson; his siblings, Patricia Johnson, Rufus Johnson, Jr. (Debra), and Carlton Johnson (Phyllis). He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of extended family and friends, all carrying countless memories shaped by his hands, his voice, his laughter, his life, and his truth.
