Coy Brown

Coy Brown Sr., son of the late Alexander G. Brown and Velie E. Brown was born on March 15, 1926 in Caswell County, North Carolina. He departed this life to suffer no more on December 27, 2002.At a tender age, his parents and nineteen siblings moved to Baltimore, Maryland. Born a twin, Coy was the fourteenth child of twenty. Sixteen siblings preceded him in death. Once emancipated into manhood he not only found his best friend in his wife Carrie but his soul mate with whom he shared thirty-seven years of love, marriage and friendship. Coy and Carrie married on June 15, 1965 and from this union, nine children were born.Coy was a man of few words, yet a man with a big heart with plenty of love to share with those he knew and loved. He had no problem freely giving of himself, if only an ear, to listen to anyone who crossed his path. More importantly, he was a God fearing man who taught his family the importance of trusting and believing in the power of prayer.Coy’s favorite saying was “oh me, oh my, small fry.’ He was a real “Mr. Fix It’. Any task he set out to complete was never left undone. He took pride in assisting his family and fellow man whenever possible.He worked tirelessly and without complaint to support his family. He worked at Abacus Food Service and later for Westinghouse where he retired. When his wife was no longer able to work, Coy came out of retirement to insure securing his family needs. Until his illness he worked diligently for Fox Chevrolet.Coy’s legacy will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His soft spoken but heartfelt words will be embedded in our hearts and minds forever.To cherish his memories Coy leaves a loving wife, Carrie; two sons, Sherman Arnett, Sr. and Coy Brown Jr.; seven daughters, Rochelle Washington, Carrie Bomar, Cora Brown, Vernetta Brown, Geneal White, Aleatrice Bennett, and Donnetta Wilson who preceded him in death; one daughter-in-law, Rita Arnett; three sons-in-law, Tyrone White, Charles Washington and Theodore Bomar, Three sisters, Alice Ward, Helen Lee and Flossie Isabelle; five brother-in-laws, Leo Ward, Larry Isabelle, Richard Brooks, Wilbert Ray and Ernest Arnett; four sister-in-laws, Sheila Arnett, Hattie Womack, Lena Brooks and Mary Lewis; one aunt, Fannie Wade; twenty-three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
